Lei's POV
I ran inside Kyle's house fuming with rage, and then heard the telephone ring.
I recognized the number on the caller ID and picked up the phone with a shaking hand. I heard a familiar voice.
"Hey it's Lara-"
"If Dawn asked you to call me then tell her to screw herself, I'm never speaking to her again, don't try calling me again." I slammed the phone down, sighing furiously.
A second later I heard it ring again, and picked it up.
"DON'T YOU UNDERSTAND WHAT DON'T CALL ME MEANS?!"
"I know you're mad, but please just listen."
"Fine." I sighed.
"Dawn is in the hospital, she was hit by a car trying to find her way back to the hospital. Nova said you were the last one to talk to her, did you leave her alone on the street?"
My stomach dropped as I tried to process what she said. This is all my fault. I knew she was right in the argument but... I just had to ruin everything didn't I?
"Lei? Hello?"
"Yeah, sorry. I left her on the street. We had an argument and-"
"Seriously?!"
"I'm sorry!"
"It shouldn't matter what happened between you two, you should've looked out for her regardless, especially late in the day when more dangerous things are bound to happen. You know better!"
"I'm sorry..."
There was a moment of silence and I heard her sigh.
"Whatever, I just thought I'd let you know she's in the hospital recovering, she should be fine tomorrow."
I was about to reply, but she hung up.
I choked on a sob and slid down the wall, sitting on the cold tiles of the kitchen floor.
I heard footsteps approaching and someone wrapped their arms around me.
"Hey, what's wrong?" Kyle worried, his voice soft and breathy.
"It's all my fault. I'm so stupid! I argued with Dawn and left her alone and she got hit by a car and now she's in the hospital and it's all my fau-"
"Hey slow down, it's okay." He shushed me and hugged me tighter.
"What about this is okay to you?!"
He said nothing.
I sobbed even harder, resting my head on his shoulder as he held me in his arms.
Dawn's POV
I felt my heart pounding in my chest, my eyes opened to the sight of the ceiling of a hospital room with bright lights. I felt a choking sensation and gasped for air as the monitor in the room beeped faster at the increase of my breathing.
"Hey calm down, you're alright." I heard the nurse say as she placed an oxygen mask on me.
I eventually calmed down, the panic slowly decreasing, and then the nurse started talking.
"You were hit by a car, and I'm not sure if you remember what happened or not but you blacked out and your aunt found you, she left an hour ago. We're gonna keep you overnight but you'll be able to go home tomorrow."
I sighed of relief, processing the information as she spoke. She left the room and I stared at the ceiling until sleep overcame me.
