Chapter Nine - Please don't leave

(A/N: This chapter is inspired by the song 'Until I found you' by Stephen Sanchez)

The warmth and sunlight on my face woke me up, and I opened my eyes to see Nova asleep next to me. I got up and opened the curtains to let more sunlight in and flicked the light switch on to see if the power was back on, and it was. I turned it back off and Nova started to wake up, I heard her groan and she sat up.

"Something wrong?"

"My stomach's killing me, it hurts."

"Maybe a hot shower would help?"

"Yeah, I'll do that."

Nova's POV

I locked myself in the bathroom, and it felt like there were knives poking my insides. I tried to ignore the pain and got in the shower, feeling the hot water relieve the tension in my shoulders.

After a while I got out of the shower and got dressed, I blow-dried my hair and put it in a bun. As I reached for the doorknob I felt a stabbing pain in my stomach and doubled over, groaning in pain.

I can't do this.

I'm going to die.

"Dawn?" I called out for her, hearing no response.

"Dawn...?!"

I heard footsteps approaching and the door flew open, I tried to lift my head to look at her but it made my body ache even more, I felt paralyzed.

"Nova?! Nova, what's wrong are you okay? Where does it hurt?!" My heartbeat ringing in my ears drowned out her voice, and everything went black.

Dawn's POV

I watched as Nova collapsed and I caught her in my arms, panic rising in my throat.

"Nova? Nova? Wake up, it's me! You're gonna be okay, okay? I've got you." I picked her up and laid her on the couch in the living room, then I ran to the telephone on the wall in the kitchen and dialled 911.

Hours later...

I sat in the waiting room alone, worrying about Nova the whole time. I can't imagine a moment to be without her. We've only just found each other, this is the happiest I've been in so long. I couldn't help but think back to all the memories we've made so far.

I thought back to last night.

"Every now and then I fall apart!!"

She got up and dramatically screamed into the flashlight, and I screamed the lyrics along with her.

"AND I NEED YOU NOW TONIGHTTTT"

"AND I NEED YOU MOREEE THAN EVERRRRR"

I said I would never fall in love again until I found her

And the time we first met. I could never forget the first time I heard her laugh, and saw her face. Her ocean eyes drive me wild, and her perfume takes over my senses whenever we're close. I never want to forget her. I don't think I ever could.

I was lost within the darkness but then I found her, I found you

I would never fall unless it's you, I fall into

Tears welled in my eyes, thinking of all the fun we'd had in only two months. I can't lose her, she's the only one who gets me. With her, I feel like I can do anything.

My thoughts were interrupted by Lei entering the room, she approached me.

"What happened?" She asked worriedly,

"I don't know, she passed out. She said her stomach was hurting before but that was it, I'm really worried."

Just then, a nurse entered the room.

"Are you Dawn?" She asked, and I nodded.

"Good news, Nova's awake and she's recovering from emergency surgery."

"Surgery?! What was wrong?"

"She had a bad case of appendicitis, but she's all better now and the two of you can go in and see her."

As soon as she finished her sentence I ran out of the waiting room and into the room Nova was in, she turned her head to look at me and gave a soft smile.

"Hey, you feeling better?"

She nodded.

"I'm so sorry that happened to you Nova, it must've been awful," Lei said softly.

"It's okay, I had Dawn with me to make sure I was okay, I trust her with my life."

Without hesitating, she grabbed my shirt by the collar and pulled me into a kiss. I pulled away and looked at her like she was crazy. She must've forgotten that Lei didn't know about us. Actually, no one did.

"Nova we're just gonna go out and talk for a second okay?" I heard Lei say, and she grabbed my arm and pulled me out of the room, leading me outside.

"What was that?" She asked.

"What?"

"Don't play dumb, Dawn. You kissed her!"

"Okay so?!"

"SO?! You didn't tell me!"

"Tell you what?"

"That you liked her, that you like girls. I told you about Kyle, but you didn't tell me about Nova?"

"Who am I to tell you anything? You didn't say anything about Kyle until yesterday! And how would I know if you were gonna support me or not?!'

"I didn't say anything about Kyle until yesterday because you're always with HER! I don't get what's so special about her, she's just a girl! Why are you so infatuated with her?!"

"MAYBE BECAUSE I LOVE HER!"

"Love her so much that you abandon your best friend?"

"I didn't abandon you, you were spending time with Kyle and I thought you needed space!"

"You're such an idiot."

"No, I'm not, how am I an idiot for wanting to spend time with someone I love? Especially when we're leaving soon! I let you spend time with Kyle and didn't get mad, so why are you getting mad at me for spending time with Nova?!"

"You are unbelievable."

"Well, at least Nova actually gets me and doesn't tear me down like you do!"

It started raining and I watched as Lei started walking away from me, down the road.

"You're really gonna walk away because you didn't win the argument?"

She stopped and turned around, her red hair now soaked and sticking to her face.

"YOU KNOW WHAT, DAWN?! I'M SICK OF YOU, EVER SINCE WE MET NOVA IT'S LIKE YOU'VE BEEN TRYING TO REPLACE ME! We came here for a summer of fun before senior year and maybe to meet some guys. But instead, you've been spending it with her and not me. So you know what? GO KISS YOUR STUPID GIRLFRIEND, SCREW THIS FRIENDSHIP!"

"FINE, I WILL! YOU'RE THE WORST PERSON I'VE EVER MET, AT LEAST SHE GETS ME BECAUSE OBVIOUSLY YOU NEVER WILL!"

I watched as she flipped me off and walked away angrily, her figure disappearing in the heavy rain.

I screamed in anger and frustration, tears and rain streaming down my face and soaking me from head to toe.

Screw this.

I tried to find the direction back to the hospital but I couldn't see through the heavy rain. I didn't know which way was what. I started walking in the other direction and wrapped my arms around myself, shivering from the damp air.

I heard the beeping of a horn coming from behind me and turned around, the headlights blinded me.

Then everything went black.
