Trigger Warning: Death

Kaya POV

I never knew who my parents were. As far as I'm concerned, the only parents I ever had were Luc's mom and dad... and Addie.

I was left at the door of an orphanage without a note or anything, simply a blanket of light blue fur.

Most may see it as a cruel action, but why would anyone want to show their face and have the owner of the orphanage remember it as a parent who abandoned their child?

I never blamed my parents for that. My biological ones, anyway.

Addie was the owner of the orphanage. She was small, no taller than 5'2, with short dirty blonde hair and kind green eyes. She always wore a pure gold locket around her neck, vowing that she'd only show it to us when we fall in love (which we insisted would never happen).

She raised about 15 kids in that orphanage, and I will never forget how much she loved us.

"Kaya, huh?" She read on the blanket as she scooped me into her arms. "Wise child, one with a beautiful body..." Her lips listed the meanings of my name. She moved a bit of my hair covering my eye and a warm smile spread across her face. "Home. Yes, that shall be the meaning."

Kaya, a name permanently written somewhere out there on a birth certificate I have no need to see. I like to think that Addie gave me that name, even though I saw it sewn onto the blanket I was left with.

Like I said, there were many people that lived in the orphanage, and I was best friends with two: Laura and Austen.

I was the youngest of the three of us, and Laura said I was the most odd looking, in the most affectionate way possible, of course.

Well, between my right eye, excessive amount of hair, and natural light blue highlight, I guess you could say I was odd.

Austen was odd too: he hates grape juice. Who doesn't like grape juice?

"Kaya!"

I jumped in my bed when I saw Laura hanging upside down from the top bunk, her necklace with a tear drop shaped pink gem at the end dangling over her face. "D'you think Austen is awake?"

"Everyone should be dead at this hour." I groaned, pulling my blanket over my head.

"It's already 5:00, come on!" 5:00 as in, 5:00 in the morning, mind you. She yanked the blanket from my grasp and dragged me out of bed towards the boy's quarters.

Like most people, Addie was asleep at this time, so we didn't need to do much sneaking around.

Laura opened the door to the boy's room and saw Austen sleeping in his bunk, right under a guy named Winston. I didn't even know Winstons came in a child form, but here we are.

"Austen!" She whisper-yelled, repeatedly.

I sighed and walked into the room, earning a nervous squeak from Laura, and shook Austen's shoulder. "Hey. Laura wants to talk to you."

He hummed, swatting me away for a moment, until I mimicked Laura's move from earlier and took his blanket. "Come on, or we won't see the sunrise."

"Fine..." He slid out of bed and placed his silver bracelet on his wrist: he said his mom gave it to him. "It better be the best sunrise I've ever seen."

"You say that every morning and it ends up being the best sunrise you've ever seen." Laura grinned as she closed the door, satisfied that she got the two of us awake.
