"What?"

You stared at June with round eyes of horror, seeing how she laughed when talking about her brother's death. "What... is wrong with you?"

"What do you mean, 'what is wrong with you?' You're the one who was obsessed with him!"

"That's not what I'm talking about, June!" Your hand was so tightly clenched that your nails began to break your skin. "You're talking about Jake's death as if it was nothing! It doesn't matter if I liked him or not, he's—"

"Dead!"

You flinched at the word. June said it so freely, like there was no meaning. A word you just pass around.

"...Langa doesn't know about this." You breathed. "He used to be so close to you."

"Right right." She brushed off the topic quite quickly. "You know, Miya even likes skateboarding. It's like reincarnation, just a little too late! Isn't that something? What, have you found some really specific type?"

"June-"

"Blaise was the one that was arrested. He was stupid then and stupid now."

Blaise... "The stalker from before? How could you even-"

"You'd be surprised what a guy would do for a girl. Even a girl that doesn't know or care about his existence. Jake was the same after all."

"You're not quite giving girls a good name in that sense."

"Not trying to."

"You're doing all this because you like me? June, that's- that's a stupid reason to do this kind of thing! It doesn't even make sense!"

"Yeah, sounds like the writing of a shoddy romantic thriller, huh?" She leaned back on the table and went quiet.

You'd think it would be easiest to read the eyes of someone you've known for so long, but alas, it was like staring at a book in a language that was not your own.

"My brother would say he loved me." She said, finally breaking silence. "He'd say that I was the best sister anyone could ask for. But sometimes, he'd give me this look." She squeezed the edge of the table. "Like I was some monster."

"What... What do you mean?"

"'You're scaring me, June.'" She quoted. "'You're acting strange.'"

You moved back. "June...?"

"I wanted you to come back to Canada... so I wouldn't be alone." Her squeeze on the table's edge suddenly turned to constant tapping. "I leaked your phone number, sent Blaise here to continue his stalker-ish tendencies, I even sent Kotaro back in hopes of you following him."

Your lips parted as you let it all process in your head. "That was all... you?"

"The things a person would do for the people they love... even take them away from such a world."

"Excuse me?"

She grinned and stood up straight, clasping her hands behind her back. "Darling... the world should've never seen your face." She held your cheeks and pressed her forehead against yours. "You would've been safe. From everything. Yet you loved the person pushing you into it."

"Isn't Y/N so talented?" Jake gawked as he placed the duvet cover over the bed.

June scoffed, patting the pillows as tossing them over Jake's unfinished sheets. "Whatever."

"What? You don't think so?"
