Not Edited, Short and Sweet.
Some of y'all have ALOT of internalized misogyny.
If you don't like my main character's actions let's remember what she has gone through and how not everyone knows how to deal with their emotions or feelings!
The male characters in this book are NOT perfect but I only see y'all calling Iyesha "dumb bitch" and "stupid". Let's not start with the double standards.
Thank you. Now on with the show.
Third Person.
The ride out of the city managed to knock Iyesha out, her sleeping face couldn't help but distract Santo as he couldn't help but to take a peak at his sleeping beauty every chance he got.He knew that she was safe with him and that her past wasn't his fault, that he couldn't do anything to prevent it— but it still hurt him. Especially knowing that he was that cause of her reliving that past trauma.
And he couldn't help but want to make the drive, the flight, the walk— to Ohio just to make everyone that had a hand in her pain meet their maker. But he didn't have names, not even her mother's.
His look into her background ended right before she moved from Ohio to Philadelphia and once he realized how lonely she truly was he found no need to keep digging. Though he was good at finding things like that— his dear cousin Luciano was much better.
Santo knew he had just did everything but kill his puppy and asking for his help so soon afterwards wouldn't be so smart— he also knew that if Luciano knew it was to help Iyesha, his little cousin would jump on it in a heartbeat.
Santo watched Iyesha stir in her sleep as they turned onto the private road towards the house. They were out in the country, on a large plot of land. There was no one else for miles.
The house, was just that— a house. It was a two story ranch house with a wrap around porch with tall oak trees decorating the perimeter and a huge field of flowers in the back. There was a swing on the porch as well as one over looking the flower field.
He had the flowers picked and planted just for Iyesha. They were all of her favorites- Carnations, Chrysanthemums, Irises, Dahlias, Marigolds, Lilies, Tulips, and her most favorite Hibiscuses.
He pulled the the truck into the garage.
"Iyesha—"
He pushed her hair from her face."Wake up, baby."
He watched the pout form on her face. The pout that was always present when she was awoken from her sleep."No."
She whined as her big brown eyes opened with annoyance."You can go to sleep when I get you into the house and settled."
"Can you carry me?"
The way she looked up at him could never make him say no."A spoiled brat is what you are."
He chuckled at her request. She shrugged as Santo removed himself from the vehicle before going into the back and slinging her tote over his shoulder. He grabbed Romeo's carrier with the same hand and grabbed her last bag.
"I'm coming back, let me set these things down."
A very sleepy Iyesha nodded her head, not even hearing what he had just said.He unlocked the door and traveled towards their room to drop off her things and Romeo off and let him out of his cage before traveling back out to go get the sleeping beauty from the car.
"Come on, sweet girl."
Taking her up into his arms she laid her head into his chest and listened to his heart thump rhythmically.Though she had a multitude of emotions swirling throughout her head, she knew that she loved Santo. She knew she loved when he trusted her enough to see him at one of his weakest moments.
