Kenny sat up in his bed. To day he would confront death. He just had to wait for that grouchy ancient bastard to come to him. He nodded his head with determination. Then began preparing for his day. He pulled his old orange parka over his shoulders zipping it up tight as he braced for the cold outside. He just hoped it wouldn't take too long
Kenny made his way to the school the fresh layer of snow crunching and giving way every step he took. He breathed in the cold air taking in the sights and sounds around him shuddering. He was never afraid to die. This time there was something on the line. He thought to himself 'am I actually scared?' Kenny let out a laugh. "I can't believe it! I'm actually afraid to see death."
The countless times he had met the looming figure he was cheeky and playful with him. He teased him over the countless ways he attempted to get Kenny in his grasp. He took a deep breath. "it's just like every other time! You've got this McCormick!" He muttered the pep talk as he rounded the street corner to face the school.
He looked around at the students passing. Meeting up with their friends, laughing and shoving eachother. It all seemed so pointless with him with the problems he was facing. He sighed making his way once again to the back of the school. This time however he did not stop to talk to the goth kids. He rounded the brick building and walked out to the middle of the field. He sat down on the fresh snow.
Kenny was there for a few minutes eyes closed just waiting. "Kenny!" He heard shouting from behind him. He didn't turn back he remained there with his eyes closed. Kyle came up behind him. "Dude what are you doing?" He huffed through the cold air. Kenny glanced up at him "waiting." He said softly. He was in a meditative state that he did not want broken by anyone.
Stan and Cartman finally made their way up to the pair letting out moans and huffs from the unexpected run. "What are you waiting for?" Kyle asked he knew he should apologize for the fight but he couldn't bring himself to do it. "Sniper.... Lightning.... Anything really." The three friends just stared to eachother puzzled.
"You're just waiting to die?!" Kyle shouted. Kenny nodded in response. He kept his voice low and his tone even. "I have a very important meeting with death. I don't intend on missing it." The boys mouths dropped open. Kyle wanted to scream at Kenny. Why was he being such a fucking goth! Cartman saw him getting worked up and he made his way between him and Kenny.
"I get it Kenny I miss him too but I'm not going to kill myself over it!" He stated putting emphasis on his words. Kenny opened his eyes to look at Eric. He patted his friend "You are the only person that might understand this. I have to get him back. No matter what it costs me." He smiled a genuine smile. Eric's head hung low. "I know how much he meant to you Ken. I'm sorry I wasn't better to him."
Kenny wasn't surprised by the comment. Eric had become so reserved and withdrawn after Butters death. "Don't worry Eric. He forgave you." Erics breath caught in his throat. He wanted to cry. Kenny stood up to hug him. They stood there silently as dark ominous clouds began to roll in. "You guys might want to get out of here." He said pulling away from Eric. The three boys looked at eachother then hung their heads and began their walk back to the school.
Kenny looked up to the sky just as the raindrops began to fall. He smiled letting them wash over him. All the other students rushed into the school. Clamoring over eachother to avoid the coming storm. Kenny was left alone. His friends watched over him from the windows.
