Purgatory (Butters X Kenny)

Chapter 2

Kenny shot up in his bed. Sweating profusely. His breathing was rapid he clutched his chest. It hurt, everything hurt! The hot tears stung his eyes as he squeezed them tightly closed trying desperately to steady his breathing. His chest felt tight like it was going to strangle his heart. His heart hammered hard against it. The loud beating thundering in his ears threatening to deafen him.

"This can't be real." He said to himself quietly. Hesitantly opening his eyes to see the same sight he always awoke to. The same unforgiving bed. The cold dingy walls threatening to close in on him at any moment. He needed to calm down.

He tried in vein to try to steady his breath. When his mind flashed to Butters. His soft bright smile. The blush on his cheeks. The way his blonde hair bounced slightly when he turned. The sickly sweet sound of his voice still rang in Kenny's ears.

"I...it...it's not possible." His breath hitched when he said it. Looking down at his hands. They were pasty and shaking. Kenny had seen a lot in his lives but this was the first time something actually frightened him so much. Then a soft voice whispered it's siren song in his ear "It was nice to see you Ken." Tears began to pour from his eyes. It felt like he was drowning. The despair was going to swallow him whole. "Leo!" He cried out a break in his voice.

He was completely alone. Why was he there?! He doesn't belong there. Kenny's thought screamed in his head. He should be here with me not in that desolate place alone! Suddenly his door swung open banging against his wall with a loud thud. He was too entranced to notice Karen rush in to his room.

She ran to him crumpling on to his bed holding is head in her hands. "Kenny?! What's wrong?" She searched his eyes for answers but they were far off. The piercing blue was murky now, unfocused. She held him in her arms wrapping tightly around his neck whispering in his ear. "It's ok Kenny, it's ok." Suddenly snapped back. Shaking his head slightly and blinking his still burning eyes.

Karen backed away looking into his eyes and he blinked at her. Relief washed over him and he pulled her tightly into his arms. Lightly sobbing on her shoulder. She petted his tangled hair while he cried. Humming softly "it's ok." He pulled back. "No Karen it's not." He said softly his voice shaking. "He's gone! I loved him more than anything Kar. And he's gone!" A small frown graced Karen's face. She hated seeing him like this. It had only been a week but he was going through hell.

Kenny had been in hell before. Multiple times. He strongly preferred that. His mind began to race. He could feel Karen's eyes on him but he couldn't bear to tell her what he had just been through. His head drooped. "I think I need to be alone." The words choked in his throat. He didn't want to hurt Karen but he couldn't stand the thought of her watching him suffer. She looked in his eyes with confusion. Still trying to find some answer in the murky depth of his pupils, before lightly squeezing his hand and standing up from his side. She walked to the door "If you need anything..... I'll be there" she said softly before closing the door.

Kenny laid back in the bed staring at the ceiling. His mind was going a million miles a minute. His heart desperately trying to keep up. He took a deep breath closing his eyes. "I have to make sure!" His brought his hands up to his face trying to wipe the stinging tears from his cheeks. "I have to go back to purgatory and just make sure that it was him." The thought was hard to bear. He had killed himself many times but this time he was actually afraid. Terrified of the outcome. What if Butters wasn't there. What if he was. He couldn't take the endless trading of thoughts hammering down on him. He leaned over slightly to the nightstand. Pulling out the drawer to grab the old rusted revolver he had found at Starks pond. Kenny took a deep breath putting the pillow over his face and pressing the barrel into it. "I'm coming Leo." He sighed muffled into the pillow. "I'll see you soon." The siren song whispered into his head and she pulled the trigger back with a click.
