(Second person POV)
(Time skip - 2 weeks)
Standing awkwardly backstage, you found yourself amidst the clattered ambience of the Ninjago Talent Show, repeating the notes and lyrics of the song you were about to perform, finding your heart throbbing in your throat from nervousness. Swallowing the lump to no avail, you glanced around the area, finding a large number of people practising and preparing for their acts, from traditional opera, to juggling and even beatboxing.
...My show doesn't seem to be all that special... you murmured to yourself, hand clutching the guitar you borrowed from Lou a little tighter. There seem to be a large number of people who wish to show off their singing skills...
Well none of them put in as much effort as you did, Koun insists, giving you a bright grin as she floated in midair, Besides, you only live once so you might as well give it all you've got and have fun!
Right, you nod to yourself, taking a deep breath as you try to steel your nerves. Everyone from the café came too so I've got to at least do my best for them.
Yeah, yeah, now go talk with the guys! your spirit companion pushed, shooting you a smirk, You've been busy all week and barely had the chance to see their performance!
You're right... Letting out another deep exhale, you approached the quartet quietly so that you wouldn't disturb their practice.
"...Then kick ball change, barrel roll, barrel turn, and we all do the double wings-" you heard Cole synchronise before Jay's yelp of pain interrupted him, disturbing the group's moment.
"Dude, you gotta follow me!" the male exclaimed to Kai who stood to his right.
"Follow you? You're two beats off!" the teen with spiky hair retorted.
"Actually, 2.72 off of the beat," Zane corrected with a friendly beam.
Looking good~ Koun snickered, giving them a wolf whistle that they couldn't hear while you rolled your eyes.
"Guys, guys!" the earth elemental stepped in, defusing the situation. "Let's not make this any harder than it needs to be. We just stick to the plan and keep up the charade until the trophy's revealed. Once we steal the Blade Cup, we can argue all we want once we get back home."
...They're being a little loud... you thought to yourself, able to fully hear their conversation despite being nearly halfway across the stage.
"But this is your hometown, Cole," Jay protested, seemingly not noticing you approaching even though he was facing you, "Don't you wanna try and win it?"
Letting out a groan, the male in black answered, "The only dance step that I wanna perform is called 'Get-me-out-of-this-nuthouse-and-let's-burn-these-memories-from-my-head-'"
Suddenly, the clank of Lou's metal rod rang throughout your area of the stage, causing you to tense up and whip your head around to the source of the noise. "What?" the man demanded, catching the four ninja's attention.
"Dad..." Cole murmured with surprise, "I..."
"Y-you... were going to... steal it?" the older of the two echoed in disbelief as you gnawed the inside of your cheek, unwilling to step in and not sure how to either.
With a sigh, the ninja in black slowly approached his father while you and his three friends stood to the side, feeling slightly awkward and unsure of what to do. "Dad... I didn't mean for you to hear that..." the male murmured, seeming uncertain at first before gradually gaining confidence again, "But-but I'm glad you did. There's something I've been wanting to tell you. All these years, I hadn't been training to be a singer or a dancer."
