Missing Them

She knew he'd been dating other people. Hell she'd been dating other people. And she'd been enjoying it. It was fun to meet new people, see if they had that fresh little spark that was so exciting on a first date. Getting to know someone's body for the first time. They'd been divorced for nearly two years now. A divorce that she asked for.

So why did she feel so jealous when she saw him out with someone else?

Why when she saw him with his arm around her waist, leaning down to whisper something to her did she suddenly want to walk right up to him and proudly claim him as her own.

She quickly ducked her head down as she walked past the coffee shop she'd seen the two of them in, hoping against all hope that he wouldn't catch a glimpse of her and make this any worse for her than it already was.

Of course, it seemed the universe was in the mood to fuck with her.

"Andy?"

Of course he called her Andy.

"Hi," she said, trying to bite back the bile that rose up her throat as she realised she would have to go through with the conversation. "How are you?"

"I'm good," he replied, a small smile gracing his features. She watched as he turned to the woman at his side, listening as he explained that she was a friend from work and forcing a smile onto her face.

"It's nice to meet you," mystery woman said, bringing Andy back out her head. "All Bobby does is talk about the people he works with, says you're the best crew in the city!"

Bobby?

His name was Robert. She only ever called him Bobby when he'd had a dream about his parents, still shaken in the darkness of their bedroom as they were still getting to know each other.

"Yeah, I guess we are," her willingness to keep faking this conversation was rapidly declining and she was trying to find a way out of this situation without making it obvious. She did not want to have to talk to Robert about why she ran away from him next shift.

"Well we'll let you get back to your morning, you looked like you were on your way to somewhere," he said, and she'd be damned if her heart still didn't jump a bit at how well he still seemed able to read her. "I'll see you tomorrow evening at work, okay?"

"Yeah, see you then," she smiled, "Nice to meet you." she tacked on, not wanting to seem rude to his date before she hurried off down the street, pulling her phone out to make herself seem more busy.

She didn't miss him. She knew why she'd divorced him and she stood by her reasoning, even if she could admit she might have been a bit rash filing when they hadn't had the chance to talk their issues through yet.

She missed them. The two of them laying in bed after a long shift, collapsing into the mound of pillows she insisted on decorating the throw, him throwing an arm over her waist to pull her closer to him as they fell into a quiet doze before they could get enough energy to shower and undress. It was the moments in the kitchen when Andy tried to cook something, him watching over her shoulder before she would playfully shove his hands away from her 'masterpiece' as she would call it. The moment in the afterglow when he would trace his fingers along her back, gently cleaning the mess between her legs before they drifted off to sleep.

Maybe she'd been too rash. And so what if she regretted it, she couldn't do anything about it now.
