Today was a slow day. I couldn't wait to go home to my girl. I was tired and all I wanted to do was get on the sofa and hold her in my arms as we watched christmas movies.
"Hey baby." She greeted me as I walked in. "How was work?"
"It was alright I suppose." I told her as I took my jacket off along with my shoes. "Too many last minute meetings. They also wanted me to fly out to the London branch on the 23rd."
"But christmas is next week." She stated as I just nodded. "You wouldn't see any of your family or me."
"That is why." I started as I loosened my tie. "I quit." She smiled softly at me before she dived in my arms. "I am not going to stay in a job that wants me to be away from the people I love at christmas."
I held her tightly in my arms. Taking in her warmth and the comfort of being with her. Not in a sexual or lustful way. In a loving intimate way. The way two souls are meant to meet and be with the other.
"Well, I am going to shower and change and then I want to go for a walk with my favorite girl." I told her as she pecked my lips.
Once I was ready, I made my way down the stairs to see her getting her boots and jacket on. She kissed my cheek as I opened the door for her.
We walked along the city streets, breathing in the brisk winter air as the christmas lights shone bright in the night.
I admired the way her eyes sparkled with the lights. Her smile never leaving her face.
"I love you." I told her for the first time. Neither of us wanted to say if we didn't mean it. But in this moment I see my whole future with her by my side.
"I love you." She whispered with a smile that matched my own before she leaned up and kissed me softly.
