Christmas was just another time of the year for (y/n), of course she loved spending the time with her dad, Charlie, and her mom but it was a little hard with her divorced parents always fighting.

She had moved in with her dad permanently 2 years ago, and she loves it even though he's never around. But hey shes busy too!

She just recently gotten a job at the local library and they even allow her to have some of her art displayed there.

It was now Christmas Eve and she was finishing up decorating the tree waiting for her dad to get home from his work party and waiting for her mom to come drop off Charlie

*ding dong*
Ooh! That must be mom and Charlie! I thought as I sped walked to the door
"Hey honey merry Christmas!!" Mom says while hugging me at the bottom of the stairs still outside
"Merry Christmas Mom!" I say hugging her back
"Hey Char Merry Christmas!" I say now hugging Charlie
"Hi (y/n) Merry Christmas!!" He said with a big smile on his face, he's always been my favorite.
Then Dad came running up to us "Hey! Heya sport! Hey princess! Sorry I'm late!" Dad says kissing Charlie and me on the tops of our heads.
"Did you want to come in for a minute?" Dad asks Mom
"Oh Neal's waiting in the car so" Mom says obviously trying to leave
"Why doesn't he come in?" Dad said
"'Cause, Daddy, he says you'll just end up saying something snotty." Charlie said which makes me giggle a bit
"Not necessarily. Could be rude or sarcastic. Whatever it takes." Dad says putting a finger up in the air with a crazy open smile at Neal who just waves at him with a grin which causes me to stiffle a laugh
"See? I gotta go." Mom says very quickly, wanting to leave
"Oh, come on. Come on. Christmas Eve. Just for a minute." Dad says as he successfully persuaded her in
"Watch those steps. They're real slippery."
"Ooh" Mom says slipping a bit, following us in
"Told ya." Dad says as we all make our way inside.

"You goin' to your mom's for dinner?"dad says as I help Charlie put the two presents he brought under the tree
"Actually, we're gonna be with Neal's family." Mom says shyly
"Ah, Christmas at the pound." Dad says along with woofing and making cat hissing and meowing noises
"There aren't that many presents over there." Charlie says as we both walk over to Dad
"That's because Santa isn't here yet Char" I say ruffling his hair
"Neal doesn't believe in Santa" Charlie tells the both of us
"Well, Neal's head comes to a point." Dad says obviously getting mad when speak of the devil, Neal starts honking his car horn
"He's smart. He's a doctor." Charlie says defending him
"He's not a doctor. He's a psychiatrist." Dad says still upset and slightly walking into the kitchen
"That's a type of doctor dad" I say with a slight giggle causing him to roll his eyes
"Don't defend him princess, Take your coat off. You're stickin' around, aren't ya?" Dad says as I help Charlie take his coat off and hang it up in the hall closet
"How about some coco Char?" I ask him getting two mugs out
"Sure!" He says with a small smile
But the moment is ruined when we can hear Mom and Dad fighting by the front door about Neal and Santa Claus, making me want to bend down and cover Charlie's ears like I did when they would fight before they had gotten divorced, but I remembered him telling me he doesn't want me to do that anymore.

"Why do you guys always have to fight? Charlie can hear you know?!" I said interrupting their argument with Charlie standing beside me

"I, uh, swear we're not fighting. It's your mom's singing. It sounds a lot like fighting, doesn't it? Cats even."
"The trouble is, Neal and your mom, they don't believe in Santa because they were real naughty. Which is why they'll probably get lumps of coal in their stockings." Dad says without skipping a beat
"I don't know. It seems kind of babyish to believe in that kind of stuff." Charlie says now leaning on a table with Christmas cards on it

" What? I believe in Santa Claus and I'm not a baby" I say making him turn around for a second to give me a slight smile

"Maybe it's time you left. We don't want to keep Dr Pinhead waiting." Dad says to Mom as he walks into the kitchen and me following after him and he gets out a cook book and puts it on the counter in front of us
"Can I help you cook dinner Dad?" I ask him
"Nah, It's ok princess I can do it" He says flipping through the pages (he's gonna regret that) while also side eyeing mom and Charlie
"Come here" Mom says to Charlie
"Do I gotta stay?" I over hear Charlie say which breaks my heart a little
"Listen, you and your daddy and your sister are gonna have a great Christmas, okay?"
"Will you pick me up tomorrow?" Charlie says
"Of course."
"Early?"
"Yes"
"We're talking sunup? You're here?"
"You'll be fine. Ah, merry Christmas, Charlie. I love you."
"I love you too, Mom." Charlie says as I walk over to Mom to say bye
"Merry Christmas (y/n) I love you, look after your brother for me" Mom says to me while we're hugging
"Merry Christmas Mama, I love you too, I will"
I say letting her go
"Bye mom" Charlie says waving goodbye while sitting on the steps

"Four hours?!?" Dad says looking at the cook book then looking at me and Charlie with his eyebrows raised then sighing
