Chapter 5

Troy

I watched the guards as they dragged Selena in, bloodied and soaking wet. Her feet trailed behind her limp body, creating a line of blood down the hall. My heart leaped at the sight of her wounded. I wondered what happened to her and I hoped it would never happen to me. It is best to not ask questions in this kind of place. I guessed we wouldn’t be escaping today, but maybe I could be wrong.

Selena

I awakened painfully; every ounce of my body was in excruciating pain. I lay there for hours, watching as my body slowly revived itself. I couldn’t sleep a wink because it was just too painful. Dinnertime passed but I decided to stay in my cell and rest in peace if I could.  Everyone else in their cells left in a rush to eat, glancing at me as they walked by. They seemed to understand my pain as they passed me with mournful eyes.

I was aroused out of my reverie as a scream penetrated the soft snoring of the people around me. I jolt out of my sprung off my bed, landing quietly on my feet. I winced at the pain as it spread throughout my body.  I scurried over and squinted towards the pitch-black entrance of the hall, where the scream had come from. One light illuminated the swelling darkness, but it was still difficult to see. I saw what looked like a person in a black hood that covered their face as they come down the passage toward where I stood.

I expected the guards to sprint into the corridor at any second, but without prevail none come. The figure slowly strode on, but stopped in front of Troy’s cell. I heard whispers, but they quieted as abruptly as they started. The hooded figure somehow opened up Troy’s cell and motioned for him to come out. As the door to his cell opened, loud groans of complaint split from the door through the peacefulness. They both stood there frozen, but still no guards had come. He walked over to me, with the hooded figure in his wake.

“Hey Selena, we’re gonna help you get outta here,” he whispered practically inaudibly.

“How?” I looked over at his savior, “Who’s this?” I muttered.

“We will explain later are you coming or not? Time is running out, we must go!”

“Okay, fine. I will come, but I will need some help.”

“I’ll help you” he gave me his hand and I took it, wobbling on my feet. “Easy now.”

“Thanks, now lets go.” I declared.

Our savior took the lead and started walking quickly, deeper into the countless cells. Troy supported me as I walked with difficulty. We were like this for a few minutes, our feet resounding throughout the corridor. We finally reached a rusted steel door and we tried to noiselessly unlatch it. It opened, letting the humid air come rushing in with the rain. I shiver at the thought of going back out into the rain. I forced the thought back into the recesses of my head. The savior signaled us to go ahead of him, so we amble into the downpour.

It seemed to be all safe and clear, but I was wrong. The alarm went off exactly at that moment, it screeched at every point of the compound. We saw soldiers beginning to form lines along side the perimeter of the fence.  Wow, of course now they come out from hiding.

 “Hide their coming!” Troy yelled.

We scrambled into a hiding place just in the nick of time cause here they come running in our direction. They slowed down as they neared, crawling as if they were searching for something or someone…

“We know you’re out here somewhere. You might as well give yourself up.” one soldier called through the pouring rain. They continued on, they neared us one step at a time. After a minute of this happening, they were practically about to step on us.  They continued on, seemingly passing us when a commanding voice cut through the downpour, it had come from behind us. It said, “Not too fast kiddies.” Everyone within 10 feet whipped around and guess who? The General was standing there glaring at us. Once again he had caught us when we were too close.
