Chapter 6

The General

I still felt the vibrant energy course through my veins from hurting that naïve girl, Selena. I loved to see her in pain and weakness, just like my father and schoolmates had loved it when I was younger.  I recalled those days like it happened yesterday….

“Nigel, quit hogging up the whole hallway with your fat!” one kid yells at me and pushes me away so that I fall. All the books I am holding fall down and slide away from me. I angrily get up from the floor and scramble to get all my precious schoolbooks, fearing the worse. What if they get stepped on or worse someone spills their food on them! I hurry over to them, scooping them up quickly.

The school day continues as the beginning. I got made fun of and since I had no friends, I just silently take it in all the mean comments. Class after class, joke after joke, they all treat me the same. They think I am a freak, but at least while I am at college; they would be flipping burgers at the local fast-food restaurants. I laugh at that thought, I would come walking in and just laugh at them.

After the school day is finally over, I walk home to see what awaits me. The school is just a few blocks away from where I live, so it doesn’t take me too long to come home.

I get to my house and go straight into the kitchen, where I see my mother.

“Hey mom.”

“Hey sweetie how was school today?”

“Terrible. People are still making fun of me, but I just ignore them.”

“Aww I’m sorry sweetie. Do you want a snack or something to eat?”

“Yeah sure, thanks mom. I’ll be in my room.”

I walk upstairs to my room. I enter the small room, the blue walls bright in the sun coming from my window. I lunge onto my bed and relax for a moment. I am not nerd or anything, like they think I am at school, I just act like it.  I open my laptop that was lying on my bed and I begin to play all my videogames. I have all the best because I am a genius with computers. My mother comes in my room, carrying my snack. She gave me a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, one of my favorite snacks.

“Thanks mom!”

“Anytime”

She smiles at me before she leaves, closing the door behind her. I devour my sandwich in an instant, loving every bite. After I finish, I put it away and continue my games. A few minutes later, my father comes home, opening the garage door to drive his BMW inside. The garage closes and I hear the door open and my mother welcoming him home. He comes up the stairs and comes into my room, causing me to cower.

“Hey Nigel, how was your day?”

“Terrible.” I hastily reply.

“You got to show him what you are made of.”

I shrug, just wanting him to leave me alone. He decides to leave, looking back at me with a frightening stare of his and closes the door. Whenever my mom goes out on errands he comes into my room and abuses me, whipping me with his belt. I try to fight back, but he is always stronger then me.  Then when mom notices my bruises, she asks and he says we were just messing around doing guy stuff. I brush the memory away and start to do my piles of homework.

We have dinner a few hours later, spaghetti with read meat sauce. Yum! I always love when mom makes this because it is a family recipe that has been passed down from generation to generation. My mother says she has to leave to get some more groceries and to do drop off my dad’s shirts at the cleaners. She leaves and now I am alone with him. I run to my room, but he beats me too it.

“Come here.”

“No!” I try to run away, but he catches up to me in a heartbeat. His belt lashes out at my leg and I go tumbling to the ground. He smiles down at me and begins the inevitable. The pain was excruciating.

The painful memory whips me out of my reverie and I remember the situation at hand, Selena. A guard comes in, running towards him.

“Sir, we’ve been infiltrated and Troy and Selena are trying to escape, Sir.” he said out of breath.  I would have thought that Selena’s lashing today would have taught her better, but apparently not.

“Thank you for telling me. Surround the fort with soldiers to prevent them from escaping and find them.”

“Sir yes sir!” the guard dashed away and shouted out the orders.

They probably won’t find them, so I will have my own little search of my own. I gathered up 5 guards to come with me and I went off. I walked in the rain for a few minutes, heading over to the camera monitor building. I arrived, drenched in water and I looked at the camera monitors.

I instantly see them, wandering through a dark empty corridor. Ahh I’d found you. I stationed a guard to watch where the escapees go and told him to radio me to where they go. I walked out once again into the downpour of rain and headed to the door where they will probably be trying to escape from. I would have said it was a pretty solid plan, but I of course, was going to bring it to ruins.

I arrived at the door and I saw them, inching out, trying to remain unseen but I saw them. I saw some of my guards converging toward them from behind; I guessed they saw them too. After they were surrounded unknowingly, I walked into the perimeter and called out, “Not too fast kiddies.”

They turned around and saw me standing there. I had a grin on my face and I saw fear in their eyes. I laughed at their so-called  “escape” and told the guards to take them. The guards converged on them and took them to the torture room and I was once again happy to have them in my grasp.
