“Moooom, do I have to go out with you guys tonight?” Hope whined, stumping her foot.

“Yes Hope, you do. It’s a family tradition, besides you only turn 16 once this is a big deal!” Dawn, her mother replied, as she continued to wash dishes.

“I know that it’s a big deal, mother! That’s why I want to spend it with my friends and not with my parents and annoying siblings!” she exclaimed as her little brother and sister ran into the kitchen.

“Hayden, Neil be careful!” their mother exclaimed at the rambunctious children.

“Sorry mom,” they smiled, running out of the room.

“Now, Hope what if we strike a deal,” her mother suggested.

“What kind of deal?” she questioned.

“The kind where we will go to dinner and ice cream early and then you can go out with your friends after. That way you’re not spending your entire 16th birthday with your “annoying family,’ how’s that sound?” Dawn asked.

“Really?” she asked, excited. “You’d do that?”

“Of course, you’re a big girl now, but not too big, ya know,” she answered with a kind smile.

“Oh, thank you; thank you, thank you mom!” Hope exclaimed, jumping to hug her mother. “You are the best mother ever!”She said, running out of the kitchen.

“Remember that next week, when you hate me for some unknown reason!” Dawn yelled after her daughter with a chuckle and a shake of her head.

“Mom,” I little voice said from behind her, and pulling her out of her thoughts.

“Hayden dear, what is it?” she asked, turning towards her other daughter.

“Neil, broke my action figure again,” she said quietly.

“Again?” Dawn sighed. “Neil, come here please!” she yelled.

“Yeah mommy?” he questioned once he was in the kitchen.

“Did you break your sister’s doll-“

“Action figure,” Hayden interrupted.

“Action figure, again?” she finished, giving him a disapproving mom look.

“She started it!” the 6 year old whined.

“I did not! You hit me over the head and then stole Captain America and broke off his legs!” Hayden yelled, holding the three pieces to show her mother.

“Neil,” Dawn gasped. “That was very rude, why would you do that to your sister?” she asked.

“Cause,” he mumbled.

“Cause why? Cause is not an answer young man,” she said.

“Cause she wouldn’t let me play,” he mumbled more audible this time.

“Hayden?”

“That’s because he breaks my toys when he plays with me,” she explained, waving the broken toy around as proof.
