“You know,” Karma started, “We’ve been walking around for like 2 hours and we haven’t seen one vampire. Maybe we should head home,” she finished, putting her phone back in her pocket.
I sighed. She was right, we’ve been “hunting”, and I say that term lightly, since 10p.m. it was a little after midnight now.
“I know Karma, but since the letter. I just feel we should look for a little longer,” I suggested.
“Fine,” she signed looking around. “Maybe we should go the bar areas. There’s usually a lot of activity around there,” she said after a couple minutes of silence.
“I don’t know, Karm. It’s just, this spot. It’s like something is going to happen right here,” I said taking a look around. The trees were vibrant reds, yellows, greens and even the browns looked bright. The leaves were still perfect as they swayed in the light October air. I shined my flash light a crossed the tops of the trees and then on the ground.
I looked up at the sky. It even seemed brighter tonight. Like every star was shining, living. I looked at the moon. It was an extraordinary red-orange color, and almost full. I would definitely be a full moon by All Hallows Eve.
“Nothing’s here Hay, let’s just go,” I jumped slightly when Karma said this, causing my flashlight to hit just where the park ended and the forest began. I looked were my flashlight hit and saw two yellow eyes staring back at.
“Oh, shit,” I whispered, not taking my eyes off the eyes.
“What?” Karma asked.
“Look,” I said just above a whisper, pointing at the eyes.
She gasped. “Looks like you were right. There is something here,” she whispered, grabbing her stake, and starting to walk towards the eyes.
“What are you doing Karma?” I asked, in a hushed tone.
“Going to kill whatever is watching us,” she snapped still walking. I felt an uneasy feeling in my stomach.
“Karma,” I whispered, “I really, um. I really think we should just leave it alone. I have a bad feeling about this,” I said.
“Hayden, you probably just don’t like that thing,” she said turning back to me.
“Or, since I knew something was here. We should stick with my gut and leave it alone,” I snapped, still looking at the yellow eyes that were now turned a little sideways and looked as if they were amused. This just fuelled the need to leave this place and hide under my covers.
“Hay, its fine, just come on,” she said grabbing my hand and pulling me closer to the vampire.
I kept the flashlight shining on it. Walking closer I started to make out its shape; tall and masculine.
“Karma, I have a really bad feeling about this,” I whispered. It felt as if we were being watched, but not just from this dude, from all around. “Hold this and hand me your flashlight,” I whispered.
Doing as I say, she grabbed the flashlight and kept it pointed at the eyes, then handed me her light. I turned around and pointed it behind us. Nearly dropping it, when I saw three more sets of eyes. I dragged the light a crossed the tree line around us. More and more eyes were popping up.
“Um, Karma,” I mumbled, “We have a HUGE problem,” I said grabbing her arm.
“You’re not kidding,” she whispered back. Turning around I saw at least seven more sets of eyes. Added to the eyes I saw, we were dealing with at least 23 or more vampires.
