Chapter 5

Matts Pov

I asked her one more time to squeeze my hand, but with no response. Taylor let out a sigh next to me and leaned back in his chair.
"Dude i think we both need to just get out of here for a bit and get some fresh air" he said while rubbing his forehead

"But what if she wakes up and im not here" i asked him because the thought of her waking up and being alone pains me.

"It'll only be a few minutes" he says trying to reassure me. I agree because chances are she wont wake up within a few minutes.
We walk out of the room and down a few hallways to a back exit. Taylor pushes it open and i put a rock by the door so it wont shut and lock us out.

I shove my hands into my pockets and face Taylor whose looking across the street at something. Its maybe around 5:30 so the sun isnt that bright right now and the sky is filled with a few dusty clouds.

After awhile of silence i finally ask the question thats been bugging me for some time , "Hey Taylor? Why havent you been staying at the hospital lately? I mean i know you care about your sister and all, but why not be here for her?"

He turned and looked at me as if hes not going to answer, but he sighed and began talking.
"I care about my sister Matt. I love her i do, but our lives have to go on. Shes been like that for awhile now and i know you think shes waking up soon but-" he paushed to take a deep breath and look at me " I talked to the doctor and he said with the amount of head damage she might not no matter the signs. And even if she does, theres a chance she wont remember who we are and-" he stops again to take another deep breath to keep him from crying "im just preparing myself for that moment. Its going to suck real bad if she wakes up without knowing who we are. Especially for the both of us" and that was it. He just looked at me after that.

I didnt say anything either. I couldnt talk about that. I love her so much and i cant think about her not remembering me.

Taylor spoke up again, "Come on, I promised it was only going to be a few minutes" and started walking to the door with me following. He pulled on the handle, the rock was gone and the door was locked.

This small issue was enough to set me off
"FUCK!" i screamed and kicked on the door.

"Hey hey come on. We can just go through the front" Taylor said and grabbed me arm and giving me a push towards the front of the hospital.

I almost ran through the front doors and into the next few before a lady stopped me.

"Excuse me sir you cant go in there without signing in"
I walked back over to the desk and told her i was trying to see Paige Caniff.
"Sir im sorry but there are already two visitors back there, her brother and friend, but once one of them leave you can go back"

"Oh you see miss, we are the two who were just back there but we went out the back and got locked out. Cant you just let us in"

"Im sorry but i cant let you back there without proof"
I was starting to get mad now. So i walked back to taylor so i wouldnt flip out.

"Whats wrong?" he asked
"She wont let us back there because we dont have proof we are the two who are supposed to be back there and i left the visitors pass in the room"

Taylor went to say something but was cut off by an echoed scream "MATT!" "MATT! MATT! MATT"
Paige.
"PAIGE?!" I yell back and me and Taylor bolt to the lady at the desk. Taylor flipped her his ID and said he was her brother and we took off through the doors to Paige's room.

We get there at the same time as the doctor but i push my way in first.

She was there. Awake. Looking at me.
"Paige" i yelled and ran up next to her. I grabbed her hand and looked at her. She was smiling at me.
"Ive missed you so much you have no idea" i told her.
"I know" she said while smiling.
"What do you mean?" I ask
"Its a looong story" she answered with a light laugh "and i'll tell you all about it once i get home" and squeezed my hand.

Ive waited for this day for so long and i dont have to words to even describe how happy I am. Im finally able to be with the girl i adore so much.
