it was too bright, there were too many people and it was far too loud. he could even hear it over his headphones. the familiar voice of joji played . he walked up to wednesday who stood arms crossed and looking as gloomy as always.
"peter?" enid questioned as he joined them. he wore jeans and a baggy jumper, a bag slung over shoulder. he merely gave a smile as he stood beside wednesday. he still wasn't used to this.
"how are we going to do it? she's watching you like a hawk." end asked as she looked at ms weems who sat on the picnic table just staring at the three.
"you and him." she replied, looking at peter and then to tyler.
"tyler? you're joking? he's great but he's as useful as a bug." he laughed. but wednesday merely side eyed him as they watched tyler argue with his father, the sheriff. and eventually their conversation grew to a short straw. peter knew the plan. wednesday would talk to tyler as peter would walk around. he had heard ms weems claim the two were up to something, he didn't even plan of getting in to escapee business until he got the note so she was quick. when the sheriff turns and walks away, enid turns to face wednesday a smile lighting her face.
"well good luck and safe travels." peter almost felt bad for enid as she went in for a hug only for the monochromed girl to take a rather large step away disgust painted on her face.
"still not a hugger, got it."
"sorry i never attempt to talk to you belfiore." and he nodded before disappearing into the crowd, the plan was to blend in until ms weems and her spies she most likely had lost them. then they would run. peter would would run one way whilst wednesday and tyler ran the other. when he heard that voice.
"peter! thanks for returning the jacket." and he looked over his shoulder to find the boy leaning against a fence of a ride. he motioned him over, using one of his lean fingers. he held a warm brown cup in his hands. peter could see the overflowing marshmallows from here.
"hot chocolate? thank you." he questioned, his face lifting into a grin. he couldn't deny a hot chocolate. and he walked over to the boy. peter was rather average height himself standing at 5'7 but xavier still loomed over him. staring down at the boy in the green jumper.
"wanna play a game?'' xavier says as he motions to the closest stand, dart throwing. and he catches a glimpse of wednesday trying to blend into the crowd. doing a very shit job obviously.
"i shouldn't, i am here with a friend?" peter replied, almost sounding unsure with his own comment and xavier raised a brow as he crossed his arms.
"girlfriend? boyfriend? friend, huh? where's rowan at then?" he laughed running his hands through his hair, he was nervous. why on earth was xavier nervous to talk to him. looking back into the crowd but finding no sign of wednesday. she had gone just like that. okay, one game won't hurt. so he instead he laughs and motions for xavier to lead the way. he laughed. xavier reaching to grab his hand and dragging him over.
"okay so it's simple enough, throw the dart at the red balloon.'' xavier spoke as he led the boy over his hand still holding peter's cold hand, he didn't want to let go. yet he had to make sure he didn't seem too weird. peter who smiles as he picks up the dart, watching xavier as he shows him how to throw the dart. xavier threw his first, it flew straight towards the middle balloon. then it was peter's turn, he followed the instructions the taller boy gave him yet instead of heading towards the balloons it seemed to somehow hit the wooden pole of the tent. above the balloons.
"pete, that was horrendous.'' xavier laughed, elbowing him in the rib and he could help but laugh as his face flushed red as well. xavier had never felt more on top of the world. not only had he got the mystery boy to talk and play a game but he was laughing and smiling at him. and they continued, peter missing every single dart.
"no, let me help.'' xavier commented and he stood behind peter, his back flush against xaviers chest. sucking in a breath that xavier couldn't help but grin at. one hand held his hip, the other reached for his arm for dart throwing. he was soft with him, helping the boy throw the dart. and he finally let out a breath as it flew from his hand, yet xavier didn't let him go until the dart hit the last red balloon. and then his arms wrapped around his waist, pulling him in for a hug.
"oh my god, you actually did it." he laughed as the game holder passed them a small teddy. it was a little brown owl, with bright green eyes. peter had never been on a date, but he had seen this scene in many romcom movies. he couldn't help but wonder if xavier thought the same. when peter finally caught sight of wednesday and tyler as the sky lit up behind xavier. he handed the boy the owl before running after them.
"pete wait.'' xavier cried holding the owl, but he disappeared into the crowd. just as he was about to get the boys instagram, knowing how hard it was to actually talk to the boy in school.
"where the fuck did you go!" he screamed at wednesday. grabbing the sleeve of her sweater.
"pilgrims." she spoke and peter looked over his shoulder to see what they were running from.the boys from the cafe stood holding bats, every american bully of them. but he got his answer so he carried on, following the pair when they ran into rowan. ms weems looking around for them, this was it. the distraction moment. wednesday crumbling into tyler's arms. visions. wednesday was a visioner. peter looked to rowan who was scrambling into the shadows of the woods. looking back to wednesday and tyler, seeing xavier leaning against a tent holding the owl to his chest. and peter ran after rowan. wednesday following quickly behind. xavier watching with a crinkled brow as the two ran after him into the dark woods.
