10. breaking and entering

peter didn't notice xavier asking mr nott if he had a copy of pride and prejudice, nor did he see him stuffing it in his bag before walking peter back to the school. when they arrived they saw wednesday sitting staring out into the woods. she looked confused. but she glanced towards the two boys. getting up to walk to them.

"peter, let's go." she spoke, grabbing the boy's sleeve and dragging him away before xavier could even question the two news friendships.

"what's wrong?" peter questioned as she led them somewhere, noticing a hand in her pocket.

"you are smart? you know books, yes?" she asked, rather sarcastically if he may add. he raised his brow before answering.

"well yeah i guess." he spoke, now noticing the familiar halls heading towards the library. the school library, somewhere he never went to, even with his love of literature. the lights were dim as they swung the doors open. the smell of old books hitting the pair almost immediately.

"what book are we looking for?" he asked, eyes scanning the middle of the library. noticing the many rows of books.

"a purple one, dark purple." she spoke, how descriptive yet he nodded. running his finger over spines as he disappeared into the library. he questioned why he never came here. it was silent, deathly silent in fact. random tables covered in scribbles pushed in corners and that's when he found the perfect location. a small opening between two shelves revealing a small room. a large window with two brown sofas. the room looked untouched. the people who made out in the library had clearly never ventured this deep into the library because this was a major good hookup spot. yet there were no purple books, so he took a mental note to write down the location of the spot before returning to check the books closer to where wednesday was.

"i don't find students here looking for actual books. most sneak in to make out." he heard a voice speak. ms thornhill. fucking shit.

"is there something i can help you find?" she asked, speaking to wednesday.

"i know it can't be easy showing up mid-semester. i've been here a year and a half and i still feel like an outsider." ms thornhill spoke as the two girls continuing with their conversation

"is that because you are the only normie on the staff? enid told me."

"to tell the truth, i've never really fit in anywhere." cause she was fucking weird.

"too odd for the normies, not odd enough for the outcasts. i thought nevermore would be different. your friend peter belfiore would understand how that feels." and he grew bored of the conversation, he hated it. how they all thought they could just bring him or any of the belfiore's up. it really ticked him off.

"i act as if i don't care if people dislike me. deep down, i secretly enjoy it." wednesday started and peter almost laughed, he could imagine the look on ms thornhills face thinking she was about to get wednesday to open up.

"and peter is not normal. but he treats me like i'm not a freak of nature, so he strange too.'' wednesday added and ms thornhill slightly smiled. the boy was hidden behind the books, it would take an idiot not to know.

"the most interesting plant grow in the shade." she added before leaving. she was so weird. she must have known he was there. and he appeared from behind the bookshelf.

"if that piece of paper is of rowan and is from a book, surely it's in his room. unless they got rid of it when he left." peter spoke and wednesday looked back at him. so he was smart, and she was glad to see she was right. he would be a vital part of her unsolving of the mystery. and for the first time peter had ever seen, a smile lifted onto her face whilst his look of concentration fell. he was fucked. and that is how he found himself stuffed into rowan's now empty closest. watching as xavier opened the door. his hair tied back yet strands few in front of his face, he was out of breath. god he was pretty. as he stripped off his top, peter didn't know if he should look away f
or not, him being in a closest right now was very fitting. but he's not gay. and xavier disappeared into the bathroom.

"oh my fucking god." peter whispered and shouted as he slammed the closest door open, stumbling out into the room. pictures hung on the walls, drawings of things like sunsets and the woods, spiders and bees. wednesday side eying the red faced boy.

"that book has to be around here somewhere. start investigating" wednesday spoke and both he and thing made the motion of nodding. thing heading towards the slightly closed bookshelf. and peter headed for xavier's desk. randomly flicking through pages of his random sketchbooks. it must have been the latest one he noted as he flipped the next page. that reddish colour drained from his face as he stayed back at the drawing. wednesday addams was staring back at him. and the lights turned off before he could flip the next page. he moved to the door, an easy escape if xavier suddenly came out.

"rowan's full of surprises." wednesday spoke, yeah and so was xavier. yet he couldn't find himself surprised that xavier had drawn wednesday. he had seen the way his eyes followed after she would walk past. but unknown to him, he failed to see that all those drawings of someone hiding behind a book was in fact him. and he heard the doorknob start to move, and instead of reaching for the door to escape. he ran back to hide in the cupboard. just shutting the door as xavier emerged from the bathroom. followed by steam from the hot shower. and thank god he didn't go for the door as someone knocked on it.
