28- the case of gates

when sheriff was stirring his coffee in his office, the person he most expected to hear from appeared. her father currently been dragged behind temporary bars before he's transferred to prison. he smiled, lifting his stirrer to his mouth s he spun on his heels. finding the woeful wednesday statued in the doorway of his office. clad in her usual black. black trousers and a black and white jumper, joined by her usual long black coat.

"how the hell did you get in?" he hadn't guessed she would make it to his office, but he knew she'd be around. hunting him like a prey.

"bernice may or may not have received a call that her tabby cat swifty is being held for ransom." she spoke as she stepped into the sheriff's office. the sense of death followed with her. he took a long sip of his packeted caramel latte. he noticed the severe lack of the writer boy that usually trailed beside the solemn lady. yet peter belfiore, was infact nowhere to be seen.

"my father did not kill garrett gates." she sneered, glaring at the man down. the shadow hall casting a devilish shadow upon her face.

"well i have his signed confession and he identified the sabre he used to do it. both im about to deliver to the district attorney." he grinned, taking another long sip of his drink. he sounded almost proud of himself. like he had been waiting his whole life for his, and that he had.

"don't you find the timing a tad bit convenient? the coroner kills himself out of remorse for a decades-old murder case the very weekend my father, your prime suspect designs to return to town." wednesday speaks, the familiar board she created in her mind returned. red strings linking people but no real answers between them.

"all i see is a guilty man who's finally going to pay for his crime. and cuffing him myself, oh, that was the icing on the cake." he stated, still holding that shit eating grin on his face. he had never looked more pleased with himself.

"sheriff how are you failing to see that someone is trying to derail my investigation. i found the monsters cave, and i gave you the dna evidence. did you even bother to test it." she could recall him ever bringing up their previous conversation. the man snickered, almost amused by her statement. he dropped into his seat, stirring the cream into his cup.

"this may come as a shock to you but the world doesn't revolve around you., addams" he spat before reaching for his drawer on his desk.

"here, dna results. no match, inconclusive." he spat, picking the folder from the top of the pile. dropping the browns folder on the desk. wednesday eyes dropping to the folder. the words unsolved written in red across the front. this firing up the girl in which caused her to bicker ack for a while.

"no, this is about justice being served. garrett gates family deserves closure. even if none of them are around to take comfort in it." he spat at her, his tone softened as he spoke about the case which had been unsolved for longer then it should have been. a dead man's justice.

"what happened to them." wednesday questioned. wanting to increase the knowledge she knew about the cases on her mind. the case of garret gates, the man her father killed. the case of the elifore siblings. the case of rowan laslow's death.

"his mother hung herself in the backyard. his father drank himself to an early grave and even his little sister didn't escape. she was orphaned, sent overseas and ended up drowning. every last one of them's gone. so your father doesn't just have garrett’s blood on his hands. he's got the whole damn families." sheriff recalled, taking sips of his drink as he an his hand down his face. as if repeating the case brought back awful memories. all this that could have been prevented if he had the evidence it was gomez addams all those years ago.

"and you better tell belfiore, that his fathers time is coming as well. he will pay for his actions." he paused before saying this, letting wednesday new information settle in.watching her face changed from inquiry to confusion. why was he bringing up william belfiore?

"what did he do?" she mumbled.

"murdered his own sister." the sheriff spat, his yes burning with a rage she had never seen before. something unnatural. something also inhuman.

"your wife." wednesday spoke, and it was the softest tone he had ever heard anyone speak. he had accessed her father of murdered gates but she was speaking soft at the note of peter's family.
