MY GIRLFRIEND

MY GIRLFRIEND.

I'm trying my best not to look over at him, trust me, I am, but I can feel his gaze kissing the side of my neck, and I'm tempted to turn my head.

"Babe, they're about to start. Come sit on my lap," Devin calls and I oblige to his request.

The others start pulling chairs up, next to the large window walls, where we'll get a good view of the fireworks.

Katsuki takes the spot right next to Devin and I. This seating arrangement makes me feel a little on edge, but I ignore it for the time being.

In an instant, the first splash of colors covers the sky. I sit up straighter and allow myself to be caught in a trance by the lights.

There's that look. The one that makes me legs feel like jelly. I watch her from the reflection of the glass, while she watches the fireworks.

I've got deja vu, again, and I instantly recall the feelings I had when she and I videotaped the Fourth of July.

Not having kissed her on the day was my only regret. Right now, as much as I want to pull her aside and wrap her in my arms before planting my lips on hers, I don't.

Y/n, you look like a goddess. I wish it were my lap you were sitting on. Maybe it's a good thing you're not, though. My feelings for you are now physically noticeable so I have to stay alert of that.

The colors splash across the sky in a line. Each one of them gets an 'oou' or an 'ahh' by everyone. Y/n, on the other hand, doesn't say a word. It's as if she's mentally recording the moment and therefore she wants it to be quiet and peaceful, with only the blast of the fireworks to fill her ears.

One moment she's sitting, and the next, she's off Devin's lap and drawing closer to the windows.

They've got her in a trance now. Somehow I feel jealous of all those bright lights. For years, since I've been absent, they've comforted her in the ways I've been wanting to.

"Look! That one's shaped like—"

"A heart." I finish her sentence.

I notice her look at my reflection, and our eyes meet on the glass. I also notice Devin's head shift a bit—he's watching me as I watch her.

I smile, knowing I'm not the only one jealous anymore. Y/n's eyes stay on mine for the longest minute, but also the shortest. My hearts beating fast.

My Y/n, a woman who'd get so caught up watching some fireworks that she'd probably accidentally injure you in the process of trying to keep her attention on them, was looking at me.

"I need to feel them." She looks away from me as she turns around and walks over to the coat hanger. Only Devin and I look at her as she puts her coat and boots on.
