Chapter Three- Never have I ever.

"Where the hell were you last night?" Robin asks from the back of Steves's car, "Yeah, I can't believe you weren't there. We all went over to Dustin's, Nancy and Jonathan too and honestly, without you there, it felt like a weird double date." Steve makes a face I've seen a million times before. "So what, you missed me because I'm your buffer?"

I've been friends with Robin since I can remember, but Nancy and I have a few classes together; we sit together and talk. I've even been to her place, so I guess you could say we're friends. I shot Steve a look, and he rolls his eyes. "No, but seriously where were you?"

"Just busy, shit with my parents. I had to stay home." I lie, and it sucks. Friends don't lie.

The party is in full swing as we step through the door, music pumps around us and we move through the crowd.

A girl from Steve's English class invited him, and if you invite Steve, Robin and I are sure to be one step behind.

"You gonna talk to her tonight?" I nudge Steve with my red solo cup in hand.

"Who?" Steve looks around and dances a little to the music.

"Pat Benatar, who do you think? Jennifer! The girl whose house this is, she likes you, I know it." Steve scrunches up his face and shrugs. "Yeah, maybe."

Robin walking back over to us, chimes in. "Come on Steve, she's hot you got to move on."

I nod my head in agreement.

"I am, I have, and I can take care of my own love life thanks." He skulls what's left of his drink clearly not driving tonight.

It's a standard high school party. If you've been to one, you've been to all, or so that's what I thought. Steve was off with Jennifer proving to himself he was over Nancy.

Robin and I were debating with some people from Hawkins high if Carol was pregnant. She missed most first classes and was always in the bathroom, and her skin-tight outfits were swapped with baggier ones. My mind thought something else altogether, and god, I hoped it wasn't true, that maybe the mind flayer was back, maybe the gate was open, maybe...

"Is that Billy?" Robins's voice snapped me into focus. I looked towards the front door as a group of Hawkins jocks welcomed Billy to the party; my eyes looked at him, and he held it for a while, turning away when Steve joined back with us. "What's that dick head doing here?" Steve is wearing his displeasure on his face.

Getting later into the night, it had died down a little. I wasn't sure if Billy was still here. I couldn't step away to find him always being pulled into a conversation or a sculling contest.

Jennifer stood front and centre of her living room with her cheerleading group of girls. "Okay since obviously only the super cool people are left, we're going to play, never have I ever," Jennifer announced. She comes over, pulling Steve to sit with the group, and his arm grabs onto mine. I follow suit, pulling Robin along with me. A few rounds in, I won't lie; it was kind of fun, my eyes dart around, and then I spot him, Billy, leaning against the kitchen island, just watching as the game unfolds.

"Never have I ever kissed Steve," Rory asks, he's Jennifer's ex-boyfriend, only asking to see if his suspicions are true. Jennifer smugly lifts her cup, taking a sip so do another three girls and then so do I.

Sure I could have lied. I don't know if it's because I'm a little tipsy or because I follow the rules of the game. Rory looks angry, and Jennifer pouts, "I'm done playing this now." Jennifer says as she gets up in a huff, Rory follows her as he chews her out about Steve. I look back, and Billy's gone; I get up, telling Robin I'm going to get some air. I head outside to see if his car is gone. It's not.
