Hide and Seek

Your POV

I sprinted frantically into the house once Emma started counting. This morning, we weren't playing tag. Instead we all agreed on playing hide and seek. Nobody could stay out in the open and run away from the tagger, everyone had to find a place to hide instead. I never really played hide and seek before, so I felt nervous but excited to win.

I dashed into the library and climbed up a ladder. Once I went to the top I spotted a window. I opened its curtains so I could hide there. My soul almost left my body when I saw that Ray was already hiding there.

"Ray?!" I screamed.

"Shhh, you're gonna alert someone that we're here."

"What are you doing here?" I asked.

"Hiding, silly." He deadpanned.

"Oh, right." My face turned red in embarrassment.

There was an awkward silence between us.

"So, um, may I hide here?" I asked him.

"Yeah, sure, but be quiet." Ray said.

He scooched over and patted the space next to him. I sat down and we closed the curtains.

"Spare me! I'm too young and beautiful to be caught!" We heard Nat from the hallway.

"Nat, you can't run away!" Emma laughed. "Get back here!"

"Well I guess Nat got caught." Ray chuckled.

"Yep, he's so dramatic when it comes to games."

"Yeah. Who else do you think got found?"

I thought. "Probably the majority of the little ones, and possibly Don too. His and Nat's strategies are similar."

"I think-"
Suddenly we heard someone open the library's door. I cupped Ray's cheeks so he'd stop talking.

"Sorry." I whispered and let go of his cheeks.

He gave me a thumbs up and the two of us waited in silence. I realised how close I was to him.

"Thoma, Lannion! Found you guys! You know, hiding underneath a table isn't always the best option." Emma giggled. "Was anyone else here?"

Thoma started, "Yeah R-"

Lannion shushed him up. "Don't rat them out, idiot!"

"Ray and who?" Emma asked.

"I'm not telling!" I heard Thoma say.

"Shame." Emma frowned. "Well, will you tell me who's with Ray and where they're hiding if I give you and Lannion five cookies each?"

"Ten each!" The boys exclaimed.

"Fine, fine, ten it is. Now who and where?"

"Ray and (Y/N) are hiding behind those curtains!" The duo said in unison.

"Shit." Ray muttered.

"Snitches" I murmured.

Suddenly, Emma opened the curtains. "Found you! Yay!" She squealed.

"No fair, you bribed Thoma and Lannion into telling you where we were hiding!" I frowned.

"Sorry!" She apologised. "Anyways, what are the two of you doing hiding with each other?" The ginger wriggled her eyebrows. "Anything the others and I don't know of?"

"It was only a coincidence." Ray defended. I think I saw him blushing. 

"I'm removing Thoma and Lannion's cookie privileges." I climbed down the ladder and rushed out of the library to find the two snitches.

Ray's POV

"So you did absolutely nothing?" Emma asked me.

"Well, we did talk a bit." I answered.

"Come on, Ray. Step up your game." She encouraged me.

"Yeah yeah, like you have any progress with Norman."

"Shut up, Ray. I'm gonna go find Norman now." She blushed at the mentioning of her crush.

"Alright, bye." She's right though, I kinda do need to step up my game."
