In beautiful lives, wherever they may be, Sally Rose Roonie Waiting, an Irish-born writer, spends her holiday crafting a novel that reaffirms the importance of belonging. Her story explores how where we come from often shapes where we settle—whether through birth, work, travel, or love. In this universe, the opportunity to live in the best place on Earth arises from a complex interplay of forces, revealing the natural drive within us all.
Belonging, however, is no simple matter. On the island of Course, citizens thrive amidst a delicate balance of solitude and community. Figuratively, they oscillate between the saturnine solitude of men enclosed by the country's Mure Wall and the vibrant mingling of couples whose lives bring their own challenges. Along the island's shores lie the remnants of ancient defenses, once protecting against the Dijarets raids.
Here, words serve as tools for crafting beauty. For artists and common folk alike, inspiration often strikes during moments of serene relaxation. While such creations spark joy, they rarely match the intensity of the motives behind true masterpieces. Yet, the countryside of Course provides a setting so unique that it has nurtured some of the world's most celebrated literary works.
Roberto Francisco Checkov Avalos, a Chilean-born poet, composes four of his finest poems—later published in The Romantic Dogs—during his modest years working on the island of Course. Struggling to support his family back in Spain, his sacrifice was immense. Although his published works eventually brought him fame, his refined manners contrasted with the modest means of his earlier life.
During this time, the Port Rudee Parliament passes a historic law granting refugees dual citizenship. This decision, born from a conference near the Black & Red Castlebourhood, transforms the nation's approach to inclusion. Avalos, among those granted citizenship, embraces this new identity and joins the Communist Party. Therefore, he immerses himself in the dynamic cultural and political fabric of the country.
