It had only been three days since Viserys had announced he would be marrying Alicent Hightower, but it had felt like three months. Rhaenrya had stayed in her room, not letting anyone in, not letting me in. I was just as distraught as she was. Her father had, in some way, betrayed her.
I made my way to her room, again. Ser Criston was posted at the door. I was glad that at least someone was keeping her safe.
"Morning, Ser Criston."
"Lady y/n. I hope you can get through to her." I knocked on the door, and heard her soft voice say go away. At least she was responding now. I opened the door, and quickly walked into the room, shutting the door behind me.
"Nyra, it's me."
"Y/n?" I sat down next to her, and felt her arms wrap around me. I returned her embrace and rested her head on my shoulder.
"Why didn't he tell me? He could have told me."
"I don't know Nyra."
"I even assured him he could marry Laena." I ran my fingers through her hair, listening to her rant about Alicent; their friendship, their family, their age difference, the small council, everything bugging her.
"Y/n?"
"Yes, Nyra?"
"Thank you. For always listening to me rant."
"Always. And besides, I love hearing small council gossip. Makes my day." Nyra let out a small laugh. I smiled and stood up.
"How about a walk?" I reached my hand out, and she took it. We walked side by side through the castle until we reached the gardens. Nyra ran out ahead of me, and pulled a newly budded rose from the thicket.
"A gift for you, my friend, who never fails to cheer me up." She handed me the rose.
"Why thank you, Princess, I will cherish it forever." I bowed slightly, and tucked the flower in my hair.
"I should give you one everyday."
"Why?"
"Because it makes you look eight times more beautiful."
"You are such a flirt."
"I try." A soft breeze from the sea blew, shifting our hair from our faces. I breathed in the crisp, salt sprinkled air, and sat down on a bench. Nyra plopped down beside me, as we watched the waves on the ocean. I looked over at her, and saw her smiling, and I knew that she would be okay. In time, she could mend her heart and rekindle her relationship with Alicent. But, for now, we could sit in peace, with each other.
A cute little chapter for our lovely Rhaenrya.
