The evening sunlight slightly warmed my face as I sat under the Weir wood tree reading one of Septa Marlow's books. I had my knees curled up as I rested the thick old book on my thighs. I was outside alone for the first time in years. Normally I was on a large blanket with either Rhaenyra or Alicent. Ever since Alicent had married Viserys the three of us hadn't really been best friends. I had become the sort of middle woman. I would spend time with Rhaenyra, telling her to make up with Alicent. I would spend time with Alicent and advise her to make up with Rhaenyra.
As I read the book on my lap I heard soft footsteps approach the tree. I looked up and saw Alicent.
"Hi."
"Hi." I patted the plush grass next to me, and I felt the tree move as she sat down.
"Why are you out here alone?"
"I needed a quiet place to think."
"Should I leave?"
"No, you can stay. I need the company as long as you don't start blabbing." I heard her soft laugh as she rested her shoulder against mine.
"You're reading the history of Winterfell?"
"Yeah. It was the book I grabbed. I don't really have another choice." I motioned to the garden around us.
"Thank you, y/n." I looked at her confused.
"For what?"
"For not treating me like everyone else does now."
"You're my best friend. I couldn't treat you differently even if I wanted to." She grabbed my right hand and held it. She shuffled herself closer to me, and I wrapped my arm around her. I kissed her head and held her a little bit tighter.
"Things are going to change."
"Please stop talking. You're ruining our moment."
We sat in silence under the Weirwood tree, listening to each other's heartbeats. We fell asleep under the Weirwood tree, holding onto each other.
