It was the day. The day that we got to go to the amusement park. At the time we were getting ready to leave. And of course it was still early in the morning; 11:20am. It was getting close to being the afternoon. The trip was supposedly one hour away from home, meaning it would take a whole hour just to get to where the actual fun begins.
The clothes that I decided to wear was a black hoodie with a felt print on one of the upper corners in the front of the hoodie saying 'Welshire eve' on it. Red plaid pants that were baggy at the ends. And for the shoes I wore the good ole classic shoes; Black converse. I was ready to rumble, ready to have some fun.
I went downstairs seeing Clarence packing a big bag with some snacks and drinks in it. Dad was in the upstairs bathroom, combing his short hair.
It was if we were going to a wedding or maybe a funeral.
"Why's dad combing his hair?" I asked, she looked over at me and shrugged.
"What about you?" I pointed at her soft, baby blue dress.
"What's wrong with it?" She asked, looking down at her dress. "I think it's pretty." she smiled softly, looking back at me.
"It's just– we are going to an amusement park? Not somewhere very nice." I sighed.
She hummed, "Well– me and your father aren't the ones that's going on the ride, you are." She crossed her arms, arching her one eyebrow.
"Alright, but still–"
"Leave your mother alone." – Dad interrupted, coming from behind me. – "We can dress how we want also. Besides, how will our neighbors think of us? We were able to afford living here because of my connections." – He was tying a tie – "there's no harm in looking nice after all."
"We will literally be an hour away from home, none of our neighbors are gonna be there. Besides, have you seen any of our neighbors wearing anything fancy?"
Both Clarence and dad stayed quiet, I guess they've already moved on from this conversation.
After a few more minutes we were on the road. The houses of this so-called 'rich street' or whatever, were flying by. Left and right, houses covered in light-colored paint were flying by smoothly and peacefully. Soon enough there were no more houses by different buildings and vehicles. Gas stations, small grocery stores, etc. There were people going in and out of the buildings and vehicles. Society was peaceful as it should be but whenever a cop car shows up and is flying by then you know something went down.
There wasn't much to do inside of the car except for looking outside the window, playing on my phone, bothering Clarence and dad, and maybe eating some snacks. Other than those things there wasn't much.
I grabbed a water bottle and a small bag of pretzels covered in chocolate. In the meantime of arrival, I'll be snacking away while playing some mobile games. I put the small bag of pretzels on my lap and the water bottle in the cup holder that was beside me. I went on my phone and started playing one of my favorite games called 'Crash and trash cars' , a game that was made by an underrated game-maker.
It's not the best game but surely ain't the worst. The creator of such said game already said that it's still in development and that there might be some bugs in the description of the game. What it is mostly about is fixing cars that's actually able to be fixed and be given a time limit. Usually it depends on the difficulty. There's different rounds and vehicles. In short: it's an online game that's about fixing different cars. It's not for everyone and it also doesn't have very good ratings. But I think it's cool at least.
After about 15 minutes I started getting bored from playing 'Crash and Trash cars', I even finished the small bag of pretzels before the 15 minutes. I didn't take a single sip of water after getting a terrible taste in my mouth from the very first sip. Didn't know that water and chocolate don't go very well together. The car ride has been quiet since the very beginning of the ride. The silence was intense, I swear, I felt my ears falling off and my eyes loosening up like a bolt that was screwed on something terribly.
I looked at Clarence and then at dad, I could mostly see the back of his head since I was sitting right behind him.
"So..." – I started – "Any plans going on next week?" I asked out of the blue.
Clarence let out a little huff, "No, not really. Other than visiting my grandparents." She answered, still looking straight ahead.
I nodded, "How old are your grandparents?" I asked as I itched the back of my head.
"They're dead." She replied back coldly, the way she spoke gave me chills.
"Oh–" – I stayed quiet for a minute – "I'm sorry..." How awkward–
"It's quite alright, they've been dead for a few years now." – She stayed quiet before she continued – "My parents pretty much forgot about them after these 'few' years." She had a soft smile on her face, she talked about them like they were nothing but in her eyes– all there was, was pain."How about you dad? Any plans on your side?" I turned to dad, ending the conversation that I had with Clarence. If I was going to be honest, it was almost as if both dad and Clarence live in opposite worlds. Dad didn't react to the conversation between me and Clarence, almost like he didn't care. That or he already knew.
"I don't really have any plans next week. Mostly working." He replied, "Oh, so how's work, exactly?"
"Same old. Same old. Nothing new, nothing changed." he sighed, "If only it did though, you know?" He looked through the mirror just to make eye contact with me.
"Yeah, I can understand. I can honestly relate to that." I chuckled softly, dad joined in.
"How's the seniors?" I asked, "I haven't seen them or heard of them since I first joined you at work."
"They're doing much better than before thanks to my powers that I was born with." He smiled, "They sent some mail the other day letting me know how they've been and all that." – He paused – "They won't be coming back since they found somewhere else to get the acupuncture they need." He sighed, losing his smile.
I smiled awkwardly, "That's rough, but on the bright side they are doing much better. That's good, right Clarence?" I asked, wanting their worlds to collide.
She gave me the side-eye, "Sure." She said, "It's a good thing that they aren't having as many issues as before."
The atmosphere that the car was filled with was unbearable. What's up with these two? I wondered. Did they fight and I just never knew about it? They looked just fine right before going into the car.How strange...
