The Fight Continues

Cheers were heard outside indicating the Scouts return from their excursion. Grim stops from signing all the death papers that will be mailed to the families of the fallen Soldiers. Turning around the crowd grew wild as the Scout made their way back to town. Grim knew who ever survive will make their way to her office, closing her eyes she took deep breaths to prepare for the reports.

It didn't take long for a knock to be heard. Grim eyed the door clenching the pen in her hand, she didn't know who would be behind that knock. Taking a deep breath she answers, "Enter." Her eyes shake with anticipation. When Hange open the door she knew that Erwin was dead.

Hange enters with tears in her eyes, "General Grim." Hange whimpers. Grim close her eyes, "I'm here to repo-" Hange swallows hard, "I'm here-" Grim open her eyes, "Where is he?" She ask. Hange sniff trying to get herself together. "He's at Shiganshina. Where he wanted to be close to the answers he's been searching for ma'am." Hange softly states. Grim nod, she open her drawer handing Hange her promotional papers, "This is for you Commander. You have been formally promote to the Commanders of the Scouts." Hange took the papers saluting, "Thank you Ma'am."

Grim stood up walking around her desk, "Commander. Please make sure these papers get send out." Hange stay silent as Grim pass her. When Grim footsteps echo threw the halls she couldn't hold in her tears. "I'm sorry Grim." Hange cries into her hands, seeing the pain behind Grim eyes.

The remaining Scouts waited for their General to make her way to them. Armin shaking like a leaf wondering how Grim will take the report about what transpire on their mission. How will she react when she reads about the decision that Captain Levi had to make. "Don't panic Armin." Levi tells him. Armin stare at him, "Grim won't kill you I can assure you." 

Armin nod, "I know but." He pause along with the rest of the Scouts, "You didn't choose her husband. I'm here instead, that would hurt anyone." Armin mumbles.

Levi nod, "That's true, but trust me when I say. Grim and Erwin I'm sure had everything figured out before all this even happened." Levi hear footsteps approaching them. Everyone straightened up thinking it was Grim making her way to them. Instead it was Hange with arms full of papers and a folder. "The General ordered us to rest and recuperate for the rest of the day. She will speak with all of us tomorrow." 

The Scouts can see how puffy her eyes were, "How is she?" Jean asked. Hange sigh, "I don't know." Was her answer. Levi eye her before walking towards the door, "Captain?" Eren ask. Levi ignore everyone as he leave the room. 

Hange turn around walking away as well, "I'll give the General the reports tomorrow. For now everyone just rest up." Hange quietly orders. The Scouts didn't know how to take what just happened, "Well. I guess we are free until tomorrow." Eren tells Mikasa. The young woman nod, "Come on everyone."

Levi rode his tired horse all the way back towards Shiganshina knowing that's where Grim has headed. He spotted her colorful horse standing near the house where they left Erwin, he got off his horse walking inside. He spot her beside Erwin crying while holding his hand. "What happened?" Grim tearfully asked. Levi kneel down. beside her holding her hand gently, her silver hair completely blocking her face. Levi took a deep breath telling her everything that has happened the day prior.

"He was ready to die Grim. I saw it in his eyes even before we all came here." Levi finishes rubbing his thumb on top of her hand. Grim wipe her face with her jacket sleeve, "I know. I saw it too." She look up to the broken roof, "He was tired, and broken." She look down to her now dead husband with a small smile. "He looks peaceful." She whispers.

Levi nod not saying a word. Grim stand up leaning down kissing Erwin on the head, "Thank you Erwin, for your love and the many years we shared." Levi couldn't hear what she was saying, nor did he try to. He just watch and waited for Grim while she say her final goodbyes.
