Dear Me
I'm a born sinner
But I was also born a winner despite the obstacles
Because of God, I know it's possible
I was never the protagonist
I'm done with the average shit
I'm not the good guy
Just the nice one trying to convict me for fun
Planting the drugs or the gun
Will you hang me?
Or will you shoot me?
Why would you try to end my life?
I know your ignorance to my strife is bliss
But that still doesn't give you the right to critique my shit
I'm not a pawn nigga
I'm a boss
I'm a soldier kingdom builder
Somebody should've told you fuck you and fuck the American Dream
Dear Me
There's no need to stay in the box
Which they tried time after time
Again, and again to keep you contained outside and inside the lines
Dear Me
You can walk through a war zone with a field full of land mines
This is a sign you cannot be defined
You are starting to bear fruit
But they are not ripe
And that is fine
Dear Me
Fuck what you heard from the grapevine
I know... I know you have been disappointed multiple times
More than you can count
Fuck everyone that has let you down
Those niggas are clowns
I know you fear that you'll turn out to be a combination
Of all the worst parts of our father as we get older
The possibilities of that actually happening continues to grow as well
I know you fear that we'll never be able
To take care of the ones that we love
And to be a man
No, be a provider
You don't want to be a boy
You want to be a grown man
Someone that takes care of his family
A man that leads with God above him
A man that reassures the woman he loves
That she is his rib
And can show her she's great
Even when she doesn't think that of herself
But how can another nigga be all that he can
If all that he has ever seen is chaos?
How can he be righteous if he's constantly being thrown into oblivion?
Is it our own inability to create positivity
The reason why we damn near hate everyone that has come around?
Especially those who have no obligation?
I bet you would go live on a secluded island
Just to get away from this
Maybe
If we just close our eyes
Click our heels three times
That just might be the case. (Prince)
Dear Me
I know it hasn't been easy lately
It's been the best and the worst of times
Yet you're still here
Learning how to survive
Give yourself grace
Stop blaming yourself for the people who chose to walk away
Let them go
It's their loss
You didn't lose them, they lost you
And the reality will set in when they see you with someone brand new
Dear Me
You came a long way
From the sleepless nights to the dreadful days
I wonder how you're still able to pray
Even when the skies around you are black and gray
You're better than what you once were
Believe that and don't be unsure
You were born to standout
Not to be a cameo
Life is full of horses and jockeys
It's up to you to run the rodeo
Dear Me
Give yourself grace
There will be people who will betray you behind your back
And to your face
Stay true to who you are
Keep working hard
Their departure was for your benefit
Your blessings are not far
I know you want revenge
"Vengeance is mine" says God
I know sometimes you want to doubt
But God will bring you right out
Dear Me
Smile
Better days are coming
You are deserving of love
And there is someone deserving of your loving
By the time they realize your worth
You'll be worth more
Pick that head up
Keep that crown off the floor
Dear Me
It's your time to be great
Go after all of your dreams
It's never too late.
