Who knew
That he'd make his broken heart look like a masterpiece
Watching as his reasons to live and die
Were castrated from his soul
How could he still continue to stand
Knowing that the ones close to him
Would be his greatest enemy?
Why did such horrific pain happen to a man
Who wanted to love the world
Fell victim to his own hurt
Causing him to lose his self-worth?
His virtues are now vices
He's wondering how to survive
He used to believe in affirmations
Now his affirmations are tied up in agony
He used to be a dreamer
Dreamt of peace and rainbows
Witnessing how it was raining bows
Arrowing pain as it left the atmosphere
Disruptions of past lovers attempting to reconnect
Thinking if he'd allow them back in
Would it be a blessing or a deep regret?
His dreams transmuted to nightmares
Depression consumed his heart
Despair took over his state of mind
He longed to be fine
Realizing that everything won't be alright
He was guilty of giving his heart to every woman that said "I love you"
Fell into the abyss of sadness
He's asking for help
Dark thoughts carried him like a belt
Holding himself together
Asking God if things would get easier and better
Yet he still smiled
Despite the losses he took
Once worrisome because he worried some
He found beauty for ashes
He's a stronger individual
Still chooses to dream
Though he was broken
He found resilience
Discovered that even broken-hearted dreamers can fly
Who knew that even he can transcribe his pain
And make his poetry all the more beautiful?
I did
I was once that broken hearted man.
