"Cal, please! Can't we just stay in? I really don't wanna go". You pleaded with the man sitting across from you, the same as you had been doing the whole way here.

"Baby, you know you have to go. You told them you were going, it's your parents. You can't bail on your parents." He tries to reason with you, sympathy evident in his tone, but you don't want sympathy, you wanted out of this situation.

"Cal, please. You know this isn't gonna end well, so let's just go home before everything turns to shit." He sighs and looks over at you, his hand moving to your own.

"Babe, stop and take a breathe." He instructs. During your panicked attempt at convincing your fiancé to bail on your families annual Christmas party you hadn't realised how fast your breathing had gotten, how shaky your hands are, or how frazzled you had become.

"I'm right here, sweetheart. Nothing's gonna happen, I promise." He tried to reassure you. His thumb drawing circles on the backs of your hands as he looked at you. His whole demeanour was calm, trying to get you to mirror it.

You took a breathe, calming yourself down and sighing in defeat. "Okay." You muttered.

This brought a smile to Calum's face, he nodded and squeezed your hand. "Let's go, baby. I won't leave your side, okay?"

You nodded in response and both got out of the car, your hands connected once again as you reached the front of the car. Your opposite hand reaching to hold onto his arm.

As he pressed a kiss to your temple as the two of you walked into the restaurant.

Everything seemed to be going alright, but as the night draws on, drinks keep coming. You both had refused every drinks offered throughout the whole night. You not being much of a drinker and Calum wanted to be there for you just incase anything were to happen.

"You could've had one, Cal." You spoke quietly, only loud enough for him to barely hear you over the restaurants atmosphere.

"I know, but me and guys go out all the time to drink, one night without it won't kill me." You both smiled as you rested your head against his arm.

"Nah mate! That's not what happened!". The voice was loud and angry, and belonging to your father. You knew him getting drunk was never a good idea, especially out in public.

Unlike you, your father drank at every opportunity he got, he wouldn't hold back either. After having a constant stream of drinks in his hand since you arrived several hours ago, he wasn't anywhere near sober.

You squeezed Calum's hand tighter as the yelling became more frequent, the tone of your father and his friends slowly getting angrier and more aggressive.

"Cal." You quietly spoke, fear evident in your voice. "Can we go outside please?". Your voice cracked at the end of your statement. Calum instantly got up, pulling you with him. He announced to your mother who was across from you both that you were going outside.

Usually as soon as the cold air hits your body, you calm down, especially when Calum is there with you. This time, it was not the case.

"Calum, please, can we go?". Your tone full with desperation, your breathing was unsteady and you knew this wasn't going to end well.

Calum saw the look on your face and immediately brought you over to the wall, letting you rest against it. He removed his arms from around to you take off his leather jacket, draping it around you. He placed a kiss on your temple and brought you into his arms. His scent comforting you as well as his arms.

"It's okay, we will go as soon as your calm. I'll call your mum on the way home and tell her you felt sick. You're okay, love." He reassures you, one hand massaging your hair and the other securely around your back as he whispers to you, looking down at you tightly pressed to his chest.

"I'm dizzy". You mutter out to him, now having slightly more control over your breathing and shaky hands. "It's okay, baby". He reassures.

Calum leads you both to the side of the restaurant, out of sight of anyone. He sinks to the floor, placing you between his legs and holding you from behind. He kisses your temple and cheek, trying to distract you from your anxiety attack.

He breathes deeply and slowly, trying to calm you down as his arms are securely around you. You breath out one last deep breathe, turning your head to the side and up, seeing him already looking down at you.

"You okay my love?". You nod in response and he places a long kiss on your forehead. You sigh deeply at the contact.

"You wanna get out of here now?". "Please." You say quietly. He stands the both of you up, leading you to the car and leaving a final kiss on your lips as you finish buckling your seatbelt. He quickly runs around to the driver side of the car, buckling himself in and starting the car.

He reaches over to grab your hand, interlocking your fingers as he drives away.

At some point you had fallen asleep, leaning over with your head rested against Calum's arm. Once you reach home, he turns to place a kiss on the top of your head whilst rubbing your opposite arm, getting you to wake up.

"Come on, it's time for bed, love." You sleepily nod and you both go inside. The two of you ending up cuddled together in your shared bedroom and drifting off to sleep in each other's arms.
