"Why would you think that your wishes would come true? It has never done such a thing; it does the exact opposite. When you wished for Dot to fail, she succeeded, but the fact that she didn't impress me wasn't because that's what you wished for; you didn't wish for that to happen; it was a pure coincidence.

Be careful what you wish for Y/N; we don't want any more Good students in trouble because you got them to do something they shouldn't. You're lucky that I could make up a silly excuse to prevent Beatrix from being sent to my school, but that won't always be the case. I'm afraid I will have to contain your special talent myself if you ever pull such a stunt again, especially since you're now aware of it.''

"So everything that happened to me in my life—the fact that my parents died—was all my fault?"

"Y/N, I don't know anything about your life before you arrived here, and I won't fish for any details, but I will assume your parents died when you were a young child and had no clue about your special talent; you hardly had a clue a few hours ago. Nothing is your fault as long as you weren't aware of what you could do, so quit your whining and don't say or believe such things ever again.''

It had been two weeks since Lady Lesso and Y/N of Gavaldon had that conversation, and it for sure changed the girl's view on everything around her and on everything that happened in the past. She often had breakdowns in which she remembered terrible things happening to her, wondering if she caused those things to happen and if she was at fault for her terrible life. But she knew, especially after thinking back on the dean's words, that that wasn't the case. Not only did terrible things still happen without her wishing on anything in general, but the wishes she did make were purely out of hope and belief, something she was taught to do by her parents since all wishes would come true.

Next to all those different thoughts and ideas about herself, the girl had to figure out the meaning behind her reaction when she was cut. Of course, she didn't ask anyone, knowing it would be a terrible idea to do so. The girl found her own solution by going back to the restricted section she hadn't been to since the last time, this time she decided to watch the librarian press the correct stone to refresh her memory.

Much to her surprise, the book she had lost in Lady Lesso's office was back in place as if it had never been touched before, confirming the dean indeed had read the title of the book and knew it belonged there. This time, however, the girl decided to continue her research inside the library to avoid any books being confiscated again in the future.

After a while, she had read her fair share of books and learned a tonne about things like kinks; some things seemed incredibly odd to her, while others she somehow understood. One preference, specifically one role, stood out to her the most: a masochist. Her reaction to the cut resembled the reactions of the characters in the books a lot, which is why she did some experiments to see if her suspicions indeed turned out to be true.

One thing she couldn't do with this knowledge was prevent reactions in unexpected situations or situations where other factors in the scene didn't help her either, it simply wasn't possible.

In these two weeks, she had also been informed about the ceremony in which one would get their finger glow, something that would be incredibly painful and inflicted by the gorgeous dean herself. Y/N of Gavaldon wasn't stupid, and she knew that her reaction couldn't possibly be hidden fully because of the other factors in her situation, one of which was Lady Lesso herself.

The girl wasn't oblivious; it was obvious to her that she was attracted to the redhead, no matter how hard she tried to convince herself that wasn't the case. She didn't exactly know what to do with this situation; falling for a teacher was incredibly unprofessional, and next to that, her teacher was a woman too, so her situation was anything but a good one.

Since her reaction being obvious to the dean was anything but inevitable, the only thing that seemed to be able to prevent further embarrassment was making sure no one except Lady Lesso herself would see or hear it, and the only way to make that happen was requesting her ceremony be done in private, which she was planning to do the moment she found herself in front of the office door of the dean.

Y/N of Gavaldon was incredibly nervous for a reason she didn't understand herself, yet she decided to ignore her feelings and knock on the door until she had permission to enter the room. It took a while for her to get it, but after a few seconds, acceptance of entering was given through the door.

The student opened the door slowly, looking inside the room to see the redhead concentrate on her paperwork, signing and grading papers at an immense speed.

"I requested to speak to you, Lady Lesso." The girl spoke after she realised the dean would continue her work if she didn't speak herself first. "That is indeed true; what is it?" The woman finally looked up; she appeared drained; her hair was out of place; she had almost unnoticeable eyebags under her eyes; and her forehead had a large wrinkle on it, as if doing the simplest things was difficult for her.

"Well, as you know, we get our powers tomorrow; I was wondering if I could get mine after the ceremony with no other students present." The Dean of Evil simply raised her eyebrow at the question. "And why would I do that?" What is your reasoning?'' Y/N had feared this exact answer, and she wouldn't dare to explain it in detail, especially since there was still a silent hope that her reaction could possibly go unnoticed.

"Well, I just don't want any other student to see my reaction since it'll hurt greatly."

"Y/N, it won't hurt that bad, and most students will flinch in pain; some will even cry, but if you simply want to get it done alone out of embarrassment, I have to decline your request. If it's that much of a problem, you can always go last; most people will be gone by then.''

It was clear the dean didn't want the conversation to continue any further, and it didn't seem like a good idea to the student either. The woman was tired, and it wouldn't be odd for her to punish people quicker in such a state.

So the girl from Gavaldon nodded while trying to hide her disappointment and growing nervousness, walked to the door, opened it, and walked out to the hallway after speaking her last sentence with a smile, remembering the time when the redhead told her the exact same thing;

''I understand Lady Lesso. Do make sure to sleep enough. Worrying so much about your work gives you wrinkles; it doesn't suit you.''
