The night sky was full of life. The shimmering of the stars reminding me that our time on earth would pass by quickly and they would watch it all, yet never tell the tales to anyone.

As I stood on that balcony in nothing but an oversized t-shirt, I allowed myself to be free. How would life be had I been born a human, or even a vampire? Would I have survived this far?

There were so many questions swirling through my head, but one screamed louder than the rest...why had I met Lucian?

I had really wanted him to be one of those people that just passed through one's life, no permanent stay. But, in that silent moment, the thought of never seeing him again after I crossed to Syra saddened me.

Yes our relationship was more of a predator-prey thing, but don't we all relate with others in different ways?

Never had I expected that I would fall for a blood race. Other than the obvious reasons why Lucian and I would never be a thing, one more had arose when Trix had revealed that he was the last Bledel...their lifespan.

A blood race could live forever, they never get sick or age. For those born purely of the blood race(purebloods) their aging process is different from vaysFor a pureblood, they hit their vampiric puberty at the age of twenty one. From here, they can control how slow or fast they want to age. At the age of twenty six, a pureblood must go through the purification ritual to freeze their age.

I learnt that it was performed by a witch, for the blood race came from our blood.

As much as we were their favorite food, they needed to keep us alive to serve them.

A knock rang in my clustered head, quickly dispersing all the wild thought that had been there.

My sixth sense picked up the familiar aura even from afar, Lucian. "Come in!"

As the door squeaked a little, then the sound of his boots on the floor, my heart slowly lost control. It just pounded hard for no reason...but wasn't there a valid one?

He could hear it, which made me feel so embarrassed and felt like jumping off the balcony.
His footsteps stopped inside the marvelous room our host family had offered me. They had a very special taste for glass walls like the one at the balcony.

"Jason said you wanted to see me?" His tone was more of curious than questioning.

My bare feet careful walked back in the bedroom, sliding the door shut with my telekinesis.
Lucian scoffed ever so lightly, as if saying that he had seen that a million times. Well given his age which would be over five hundred years, he must have seen a lot. Now I was suddenly feeling so little in his eyes. No wonder he always called me little.

"Pardon my attire, I thought this meeting would be till sunrise."

Our eyes met as I halted opposite his tall frame. The only thing standing between us was a little bear rug spread on the floor, but it was more of lying.

"He was very vague with why you wanted to-"

    "I know you're a Bledel!"

Oh yes! I had dropped the bomb on him hot and ready to explode.

With a slight frown and scrunched eyebrows, the male looked ready to dash at me and rip me in pieces. The horrific scene made my body shiver in fear like a chilling breeze had engulfed me.

I watched him carefully, saw his eyes lower down to my chest for a few seconds then up at my face. "Funny it took you long enough."

"Wasn't my discovery but the woman you slept with in this house."
My words cut him deep, as the anger rose in his turning eyes. The glow wasn't strong, but it did show his rage.

Damn! Every single time we came face to face with each other, I always set him off...but why?

"That was a mistake she will forever carry the shame. I sleep with whoever I please, not being forced to using your little spells. Not that it concerns you, but I just don't make love to any female."

"So you do like Daisy?" I blurted, regretting almost immediately.

Lucian took a step forward, his eyes still flaming red. He expected me to back away but I held my ground. Held it till he had done away with the distance that was between us and now towered over me.

"I smell envy from you." He whispered proudly.

Don't fall for his tricks Syin.

"Envy?" I scoffed rolling my eyes. "Oh please! Envy of what? You?"

"So you want to play games hm?"

Drowning in his eyes, words escaped my mind. No! He wasn't supposed to affect me that much. I have to-  The sudden sound of wind screaming outside and the energy my body picked up made me whirl around and immediately putting up a shield.

As it blast through the glass wall and straight at us, I shut my eyes holding up my hands to keep the magical shield in place.

In those few seconds of instinctive response, I lost sense of everything around me and focused on protecting us...protecting, Lucian.

My shallow breaths gushed out repeatedly, hitting a wall in front of me to bounce back to my face.
The cologne filling my nostrils, the warm wall embracing me...could it be possible?

It had happened so fast, but with Lucian's speedy reflexes, it didn't baffle my mind that he had made it in front of me in half a second.
But the way he was holding me, so protectively. Why would he shield me with his body?

The danger was over, I could no longer feel the threat anymore, so my hands lowered from his sides and rested on his waist before pushing myself off of him.

We shared a moment again, staring silently into each other's eyes. My chest was on fire, my heart racing. Not from the danger that we had been faced with, but from Lucian's actions.
Had I not put up the shield, he had freely offered to be...my shield.

The selfless act touched every depth and corner of my soul.
