I squeezed my eyes shut at the sight and smell of a familiar human. He was walking straight at our table, the doctor, Josh Holland. His hair was pushed back in a smooth gelled style, making him appear as if he knew exactly what he wanted in life.

Just a few years ago, he had treated my wound from a fight I had had. Something about him that I couldn't quite place.

His face lit up in a broad grin upon laying eyes on the redhead seated across us. Her gray pair flickered between me and her date, Josh the human doctor. She did not want to have me out of her sight even for a single second. Well, so did I. She was the one I had been looking for for a while, the price. I couldn't afford to have her use her witch powers to escape. At least I had an advantage, I now knew her friend, where they live. Also, her lover, Josh the human doctor!

My mind zoomed out due to boredom as Josh sat next to Syin while delivering a peck on her cheek. Heaven help me! It took all the self control in me not to grab Josh by the neck and snap it like a chicken's. I wouldn't even want to drink his blood, Syin's uncontaminated blood would be enough to last me a long time.

Something sharp was poked on my left side of the ribs. I followed the elbow that had poked me and felt the urge of biting my date right then and there. Did she know who she was seated next to? Nobody ordered me around or told me what to do.
But somebody's glare boring through my body had me turn to the couple on the other side of the table.

His cologne stunk!

I stared at the open palm directed at me. A hundred thoughts of how I could grab and toss him across the room ran through my mind. But, Syin was waiting for a tiny provoking action from my side so she could set me on fire with her magic... I really wasn't a fan of witches, even though we descended from the blood of their first people. It also didn't count that I had a witch under my protection who basically helped me finding my preys.

For some reason, that witch had no idea why Syin was on our side of the realm. He also didn't know when she arrived. Almost as if her tracks were being covered. Given that she might have been royal, it explained why.

"Dan!" I stated briefly shaking his hand.

I caught Syin's expression from the corner of my eye, heard the way her heart was pounding in her chest... Fear. She was hiding it so well, but I could feel it leaking. Could see it dripping from her gray eyes that were studying me so keenly.
If it went on, the other two would actually think she was crushing on me.

Daisy started making small talk, clearing the air of the awkwardness floating about.

I chipped in every now and then, but my focus was secretly on the Syran. While I wasn't a big believer of fate, I was thankful to whichever force had brought her my way for the double date. A prey finding a predator... My body shivered to the fantasy of digging my long sharp fangs in the comfort of her neck as my hands held her waist gently. Yes! I wouldn't be rough with her. I wanted her blood, so badly. So I couldn't afford to hurt her, or have anyone hurt her. Maybe she would even enjoy having me to protect her.
