Nice filler chapter to keep the drama from the last one going a bit more. This is going to be all about Sodo before Ember. Enjoy!

"Dew, you haven't found your mate yet?" Ifrit asked the water ghoul. He just shook his head in response, "No. Not yet."
"It's gotta be one of the ghouls in this ministry. There's no way you're fated to someone who hasn't come up yet. I mean, look at you, who wouldn't want you?" Ifrit asked. Dew just chuckled, leaning back on the couch he sat on, holding a glass of whiskey, "Maybe I'm not fated to anyone."
"Now that is impossible. It's unheard of for a ghoul to stay unmated all their life," Ifrit told him. Sodo just chuckled, "Unheard of does not mean impossible."
"I mean, it might as well, no one has ever had no mate their entire life," Ifrit said. Sodo sighed. Truth was, he had found his mate. Only, his mate was mated to another ghoul. Mated to Alpha. Of course. Sodo just shrugged, downing the rest of his whiskey, "Guess I'll be the first."
Ifrit just chuckled, telling him he'd see him in practice later, leaving the room. Sodo stayed in the common room for a little while longer, drinking another glass of whiskey before deciding he would put himself out of his misery. Yes, it would probably hurt like hell, but he dint want to actually end up alone.
He stood up going to his mate's room, knocking on the door. He heard some shuffling, the door soon opening up, revealing the ghoulette. He could see that Alpha was laying on her bed in the back and he sighed. This was going to be embarrassing.
Sodo just took a breath and said, "Hi, I'm Dewdrop, but I'm sure you knew that by now, anyway, um, I was mated to you and-"
"Don't even try to steal my mate, Dew!" Alpha barked. Sodo looked at the bigger ghoul, eyes wide, "No, I'm not. She's yours. I'm not saying I don't want her, but she chose you. I just came here to get her to reject me so I can just move on."
"You know the chances are death for rejection," Alpha told him, walking over. Sodo nodded, "I know. But I'd rather that than have to watch my mate be with someone else."
"Dude, are you okay?" Alpha asked. Sodo nodded, "Fine. Just have her reject me and she'll be all yours."
Alpha just sighed, telling his mate, "It's up to you, Love."
The female ghoul looked at Sodo asking, "Are you sure?"
Sodo nodded, "Just get it over with. Please."
She sighed and said, "Alright. Sodo. I reject you as my mate."
Sodo felt a pain go through his chest as the pull to her snapped. She looked at him in worry before he held his hand out to her, holding his chest, "I'm fine. I will be. Don't worry about me."
He then hobbled away to his room, laying on his bed where he would stay for the next few days, just drowning his sorrows in alcohol.
It was Aether who found him first, drunk on his bedroom floor with liquor bottles surrounding him, some beer bottles mixed in the mess as well. Aether's eyes widened, "Dew what happened?"
"Fucking fate man. It's a joke," Dew slurred, "You know you can be mated to someone who already has a mate? It's bullshit man."
"Dew, what happened?" Aether repeated slowly, helping his friend off the ground. Dew started laughing, "I told her to reject me, dude. I told her to. Fuck if it didn't hurt, but, man, I wasn't about to watch her and Alpha together."
"You were mated to Alphas mate?" Aether asked as he placed Sodo on his bed. Sodo stopped laughing, nodding, "Yep. He thought I was there to steal her. She would never choose me. I mean, look at the guy. The dude's built. I'm just me."
