"Being thrown to the dirt
Over and over
Is better than being
Heartbroken once"

I've been training with Kaminari for a few hours now, arms littered with scratches and dirt. Licking my bottom lip, I feel a fresh cut.

"You really-" I collect the metallic taste in my mouth, spitting it out. "Take any chance you can get." Huffing, I take a fighting stance again.

"You," he sighs out, wiping his forehead of sweat. He wasn't as beat up but was just as tired. "Don't know when to quit." He matches the stance and rolls his neck.

Shaking my head, I rush him, jaw clenched to keep from saying anything. He waits, hands at his sides before he speaks.

"You don't think this will work, do you?" I bite my tongue, grasping his right wrist and turning my body.

He raises his eyebrows.

I use my left heel to kick at the back of his knee and try using his body weight to flip him over. What I didn't estimate was how much stronger he was.

Before this, he hadn't laid a hand on me.

He smirks down at me and grips the back of my shirt. While rebalancing himself on the leg I kicked, he threw me to the ground behind him.

I gasp and choke on the impact against my stomach, nose throbbing from hitting the ground.

"Oh shit-" he widens his eyes and goes to help me up, but stops when I raise a hand at him.

"Don't touch me." I snap, sitting up on my knees as I hold my nose. Looking down at my hand, I see fresh blood. Pinching the bridge of my nose I tilt up my head.

"I'm sorry-" he begins to apologize and I snap my fingers at him. Kaminari looked like a kicked puppy as I did.

"Don't," I say behind my hand and stand up. "Training is training. You shouldn't have to go easy on me just because you don't know me." I point to my bag.

"Can you bring me that?" I ask over the wind against the trees.

"Sure." He nods and retrieves the bag, and I grab my phone to call Mom.

"This isn't the worst I've had," I quickly say, looking into his eyes before he nods in understanding. The phone rings a few times before Mom answers.

"Hey, I'm on my way. I didn't realize it was so late already." I put her on speaker.
