Chapter Nine

*Bayard's POV* 

I ran to Marmoreal out of breath after I took Alice to the Red Queen's castle so she could save the Mad Hatter. I saw the White Queen walking with her subjects, only for her to see me, dismiss them, and rush to me all excited. "What news, Bayard?" The White Queen asked me. I pant, "Alice has returned to Underland." The White Queen looked around, "Where is she now." I sigh, "In Salazen Grum. Forgive me. I allowed her to divert from her destined path." The White Queen cupped my cheeks, "No, no, no, no. But that is exactly where she will find the Vorpal Sword. We have our Champion. Rest now. You've done well." I pant more, trying to catch my breath, "But that is not all. Adrian, Alice's older brother is in Salazen Grum as well." The Queen smiles at the thought of her future king in Underland, but frowns at the mere thought of him with her sister, "That is not good, Bayard." I chuckled as I laid my head down on her lap, "Maybe so, but I heard he wasn't really up for the offer of marriage to her, if anything, he was trying to leave to get to you." The White Queen blushed, "I'm happy to hear that Bayard." She then pets my head as I catch my breath.

-At Salazen Grum-

*Adrian's POV* 

I grumble as I walk around the Red Queen's castle. This is ridiculous! I don't want to be here! Let me out so I can go to Marmoreal!  I walk into the throne room in time to see Stayne kiss Iracebeth's hand and ask who the woman beside her is. I gasp to see a taller Alice than I remember last time. Iracebeth gave me a cake that she took from McTwisp so I could be my regular height and she could play out her silly little love fantasy. Alice smiles at me and looks relieved that I am okay. 

Iracebeth looks between us and grins, "Ah. Um, this is my fiance, Adrian. I plan to marry him as soon as my Jabber-baby-wocky defeats Alice." I frown at this and look down. Alice doesn't look happy either, "Your majesty, may I take the future king and have him show me around? I don't want to bother you because you might have plans." Iracebeth smiles and allows it. 

Alice and I walk out of the throne room and hug once we are out of sight. "Thank the heavens you are safe Alice," I tell her. Alice smiles and loops her arm in mine, "I should be saying that to you, now, let's go find Hatter's hat. I want to introduce you two since you'll be marrying the White Queen." My face flushes, "I'm not sure about that. What would mother think?" Alice smiles sadly, "I would tell mother once I got back out of this dream that you found the wife of your dreams and ran off to China with her." I swat her arm and laugh. We head to the checkered red and black garden in search of the hat in question. Alice walks over and picks up a hat, calls me over softly and we head back inside to Hatter.
