*Adrian's POV*

The next morning we are all standing in front of the castle. "Who will step forth to be champion for the White Queen?" McTwisp calls out after trumpeting for everyone's attention. "That would be I," The Hatter announces and steps forward. " You have very poor evaporating skills. I should be the one." Chess states and floats forward. I squeeze Mirana's hand and step forward, "I will be champion for the White Queen." Gasps sound out along with whispers, Mirana grabs my hand and tears up, "No, you can not." I squeeze her hand and smile sadly. "I'll do it," Mally pats her chest.

Tweedledum and his brother step forward, "No, me." "No, me." Mirana side-eyes McTwisp and he rolls out the Oraculum. The Tweedles step forward to look at the Oraculum, "No other slayer, nohow." "If it ain't Alice, it ain't dead." At this Mirana gestures to the boys to stop, knowing how Alice felt about slaying the Jabberwocky. I walk forward to see it myself and noticed that something has changed: Stayne is stepping up to attack me and Hatter is right by my side.

I turn to look at Alice and she looks at everyone. "Alice, you cannot live your life to please others. The choice must be yours because when you step out to face that creature, you will step out alone," Mirana states. Alice takes a deep breath and looks at everyone, only to rush off as she did during Hamish's proposal. I frown and walk over to Mirana, hugging her. Everyone frowns, knowing that Alice has refused to slay the Jabberwocky.

-Timeskip-

Mirana and I stand by our horses with the Hatter and the White Chess piece guards. Mirana looks back at the castle hoping to see Alice. I frown and put my hand on her back. We look to the ground and get ready to mount our horses. I look around, hearing heavy footsteps approaching, only to look back at the castle and grin.

Alice has taken on the role of a champion.

Mirana and I get on our horses and smile at Alice. "Hello Ali, nice of you to join us," I smirk at her. Alice smiles and grabs my hand, "You were right, this place is real." She lets go of my hand and we start making our way to the champions' field where we meet Iracebeth.
