Kiri had been aching to talk to Neteyam. It itched less than the resentment of not being pure Na'vi, but she still wanted to know more. Once she found him sitting on a ledge by the water when she was out looking for sea shells, she knew the chance lied in her hands.
She sat down slowly, looking out at the sea with him. "What are you thinking about?" She asked her older brother.
He shrugged. "Nothing."
Kiri nudged his shoulder, chuckling. "I know about you and Fei'uey."
His head turned swiftly, eyes wide. "What are you talking about?"
"Oh, come on. It's embarrassing that you call that a lie."
He shook his head rapidly and continued to keep up his stupid act. "No, I don't know what you're talking about. Fei and I have nothing going on, I swear."
She sighed heavily and groaned out loud. "Dude, I don't care! I'm not gonna tell anyone! I just wanna know how she managed to like an idiot like you." She swayed her feet around and giggled. "Fei isn't the type of person to open up often. You're lucky."
He rolled his eyes and elbowed Kiri, which made her laugh harder. When the chuckles died down, he looked back at the sea and kicked his feet in the water. "She didn't want to even talk to me at first. She wanted to focus on her future."
He paused, which made her gesture for him to continue. He huffed. "And then, one day, it was like she let it all go."
"And now she's happier than ever." Kiri pointed out. She suppressed a smile. "You know, for the little time she spends away from you, she isn't as tense. She smiles more, courtesy to you, I suppose."
Neteyam winced when he remembered what had taken place earlier that day. "Not anymore. She had trouble knowing what to do during that fight. She didn't know which side to pick."
"She didn't have to." Kiri assured. "She played neutral." She could see the pain on his face. Neteyam thought he had been the reason that she didn't know what to do. She placed a comforting hand on his shoulder. "None of it was your fault, Aonung was just picking on me. It's okay,"
Neteyam had finally relaxed. With Kiri's acceptance, he felt like he could tell every Na'vi about what he and Fei had been doing. That they were borderline in love with each other and nobody was stopping it. Especially not any time soon, since his vision of the future with Fei and their daughter, Sylwanin.
He could never have felt more content.
However, a different story took place for Fei.
It had been right after their father scolded Aonung. The siblings were alone in their parents' Marui. The silence had never been more deafening.
There was a certain rage behind Fei's eyes as she stared off at nothing, letting her mind run blank so she wouldn't be tempted to take her anger out on the boy. No matter how mad she felt or how stupid he had been, she refused to.
Her brother, however, was pissed.
"You know, I thought that Tsireya was the only one to lose her mind and choose to like a freak." Aonung spoke in the silence. He was building on the tension. "Turns out, you've lost it too."
Fei furrowed her brows. "What? Did Lo'ak hit you in the head too hard?"
"I know," He snarled. "What's going on with you and Neteyam. It's not hard to see when he's eyeing you like-"
"-You're delusional." She cut him off before he could say anything he would regret any more. However, Fei could block out the flash of a memory from before. His tail trailing up her legs, hands dipping a little too low on her back. "I would kill myself before I would let someone like him touch me."
Aonung huffed. "See, I would have believed you until I saw the way you looked at him."
She slammed her hands down in anger. She was getting pissed quickly. "Don't pull this shit away from you!" Fei pointed a finger to his face. "You were the one who started calling them freaks! And now that you were beaten to the ground, you are not allowed to bring up any stupid ideas to make yourself feel better! That is not what you have been taught to do!"
A tense silence enveloped them. She backed away slowly. Fei hadn't meant to blow up, but it was a reflex. For years, Aonung hadn't taken his duties seriously. He didn't follow directions and duties.
In a way, he was exactly like Lo'ak.
Fei looked up to the roof of the Marui and huffed. She bit her tongue and held back more words. "I'm leaving. If you follow me, I'll kill you." Right before she walked out, she turned her head to address him. "Aonung, nothing is happening between Neteyam and I. Let your poor thought go."
With that, she finally left him in the dust.
---
Hours later, in broad daylight, another tragedy struck right after the other. Shouts were heard as Neteyam dragged Aonung by the arm. His grip was strong like steel. His expression was cold.
Fei stalked up to them. "Aonung, what did you do?" She looked to Neteyam and pleaded for an answer with her eyes.
When he kept his head down in a humiliating silence, the older boy shook his body and grit his teeth. "Come on, say it! She doesn't have all damn day!"
Fei glanced up to the boy's eyes with worry. She hadn't seen him to livid before. "Neteyam, what-"
It was then that Aonung spoke, voice barely heard. He was ashamed. "We led Lo'ak beyond the reef and we left him there. He hasn't come back yet."
"We?" The furrow in her brows loosened as she realized who he was talking about. "I see you bringing those friends with you and I'll gut you." She threatened. With a shaky breath, she motioned for Neteyam to back off.
He reluctantly let go of the boy's arm.
It was then that she got closer to his face. "If he really is dead because of your prank, you will be labeled a kinslayer." Fei's nostrils flared, ears twitching madly. "Toruk Makto and his wife would have your blood. Leave and tell father." She backed up and pointed to the bigger and more open Marui of the island, front and center.
For his entire life, Aonung had never seen Fei this angry. Sure, he had done a lot of stupid things when he was younger, but never did he see this kind of assertive attitude from her before. And for some reason, it made him feel incredibly empty as a disappointment.
"With your own words, tell him everything." She balled up her fists, keeping them to her sides despite the urge to let her anger out. "If he truly is dead, they will have your head."
