I yanked open the door abruptly, and slammed it shut with such force that Kate flinched in surprise. She looked at me with wide eyes, and cocked her head to the side. I didn't say anything, but I could tell she was wondering what the hell was going on.

I felt the tears slowly trickle down my cheek as I smiled at her. "Kate," I said softly.

"Tell me," she whispered.

"I'm just really scared," I said, resting my chin in the nook of her neck as she held me.

"I know, but I promise everything will be okay and whatever it is, we'll get through this together." Kate said, as she gently wiped the tears off my cheek with her thumb.
