Hey there! I'm Forest, and this is my first story/chapter on Wattpad, 'Broken'. I hope you enjoy.ғᴏʀᴇsᴛ ʜᴀs ᴅɪsᴀᴘᴘᴇᴀʀᴇᴅ...
Sweat dripped down my forehead, my breaths coming in sharp intakes. I couldn't bear to look at anyone after what I'd done- what I'd been forced to done.
"Here, honey, take this towel." A woman handed me a gray towel and I wiped off the sweat off my neck, forehead and hands. "Congratulations on surviving," she said, smiling. "Now the scientists will just analyze the information they'd received and you'll be told where you fit in society. I wish you luck!" I returned her enthusiastic smile with an absent-minded one, my mind unable to stop replaying the horrors of the day. I sat down on a chair and rubbed my temples, dreading King Hunter's arrival and announcement.
The other survivors came into the room I was in, one by one. I could see guilt, grief, sadness, but most of all- relief. Relief that they'd survived. We sat in silence, until a girl broke it.
"Hello..." I glared at her. She flinched and shut her mouth. I studied the girl. She had long, brown hair and seemingly innocent green eyes, but as I studied her further and narrowed my eyes, I could see glints of guilt and violence past the innocence. Not so innocent, after all. I turned to study the other survivors. I noticed she had a strange semi-circle hair clip and golden earrings with flecks of green. same woman from before came in, gave a reassuring smile and said, "It's time for King Hunter to announce your role in society"
I waited anxiously on stage, putting on a small, fake smile.
"Each year, we host a Tournament on the last day of the year. The Tournament tests your skill, your luck, your ability, your physical and mental skill, your friendships, the strength of your alliances. Every sixteen-year-old must compete in the Tournament to test and see where they truly belong in society. There are five 'tiers' of society, and from the highest to lowest they are: royalty, aristocracy, middle class, lower class and the outcasts. most privileges, but they also carry the most burden, the most responsibility. Members of the aristocracy have to be smart and be able to make quick, smart decisions as they will work with royalty to solve situations and improve our world. middle and lower class. just that the lower class has less privileges than the middle class. And of course, we have the outcasts."
The outcasts. The name felt sour on my tongue. Outcasts were scorned;
"Now, I will announce the results for this group." King Hunter turned to face us. "There are five rooms behind me. When I announce your group, enter the room that you have been assigned." He turned back to the audience "Kim Certon: middle class. Harold Coime: aristocracy..." I tuned out, looking around. I was standing in a circular room, with white walls. A glass dome replaced the normal flat ceiling, giving me a clear view of the night sky. Stars twinkled and seemed to wink at me and wish me good luck. I huffed and turned my focus to King Hunter.
"...Jaya Kelia: aristocracy. Destiny Lea:.." I straightened my posture, eyes wide with anticipation. "Destiny Lea: aristocracy." I couldn't keep the smile off my face, and I couldn't hear anything a part from my own thoughts.
Which was probably why I didn't hear the King calling my name.
