Lo'ak.. a name that I've never heard before but at the same time I had a strange feeling hearing it.
...
How can a simple word as a name have me questioning about the feelings I'm having?
I looked at Lo'ak and to my surprise he was already looking at me with a curious look. The second we met gazes we both looked away in sync, that's when both Tsireya and Neteyam looked confused and the curly haired Na'vi elbowed me teasingly.
"Anyways, for starters, we want to see how skilled you are at swimming" I explained, looking at their physical features "Honestly, we only know how to fly Ikrans and ride Direhorses,," Kiri said.
"You're still going to try, come on!" I took a small sprint and then disappeared in the water, I could hear the others jumping into the water and when I saw Tsireya made it near me I turned around to see the poor guests having difficulties with reaching us.
Tsireya tapped my shoulder and when I turned to her she signed me to go back to the surface, so I did as she told me.
They followed us to the top of the water, "Ok,, now I see in what we have to work on." Tsireya said.
"Sis, they're not going to make it if they stay here, they should go back at swinging through trees!" I could hear Ao'nung in the distance.I turned around to splash him "Be nice Ao'nung." I said as he flattened his ears "Yeah, whatever."
"We have to work on many things,"- Tsireya interrupted our small argument -"but I think we should begin on the breathing exercises."
She turned around to pull Ao'nung's tail "You're coming too." she smiled as he snorted....
Breathing exercises, things that we know since we're babies but of course not everyone is capable. We were divided in little groups, Tsireya worked with Lo'ak, Rotxo with Kiri and Tuk while Ao'nung was with Neteyam.
Me? I was just admiring the view. It's funny too see Ao'nung being forced to do something he doesn't want to.
With the corner of my eye I could see that Lo'ak was having some trouble with controlling his breathing, so to help him I put a hand on his chest and one on his stomach, he was warm to the touch..
"You have to slow down your heartbeat, and breathe out slowly" I explained to him while he was trying to do as told "Lo'ak, focus. Your heart beat is way too fast." He looked away "Right, sorry."I could hear Neteyam chuckling. I sighed knowing it was going to be a long lesson but at least I got to know more about these 'Forest People'.
We went on for what seemed like a few hours, we explained to them the way of water and how it connects everything. For the Metkayina people the way of water it's the most important part of learning our ways.
They understood the basics kind of quickly so it meant less work for us.During the time spent together I could see the kindness they had in them, they were always apologizing even for the smallest things and they gave it all to understand our separate methods.
Lo'ak caught my eye even more, I don't know why but he seemed the most intriguing of all.
When it was time to ride the Ilu's, Tsireya gave me the honor to work with Lo'ak while she was helping here and there with the others.
"They are really sociable, but be careful, they can be really fast in the water so you have to keep a good posture on the saddle." I smiled at him."Ok,, here we go." the boy chuckled excitedly while taking his tswin to make the tsaheylu with the Ilu.
I watched him closely, scanning his excited yet concentrated gaze and then, there they disappeared in the water; however as I expected, Lo'ak reappeared at the surface a few meters further.
I chuckled shaking my head and called the Ilu back to me."Don't you dare give up now Forest Boy." I said looking at him, he gave me a feverish smile "Who said I was going to give up?"
I'm starting to admire this strange guy....
We were done with the teaching for the day and as we were going to our separate ways, I noticed Lo'ak wanting to say something but Tuk interrupted him.
I turned to him and he rose his eyes looking into mine, I beamed at him and waved him goodbye.Seeing his ears move excitedly was kind of amusing.
Maybe Tsireya was right, this is a chance to find that special someone, but I always have to remind myself to not get my expectations too high,, and as always; I do not trust.
Never.
I came back to reality when I heard the Olo'eyktan children saying goodbye to me, I did the same and started to go back to my Marui pod, where mother and father were waiting for me.
I arrived safely and my mother was weirdly analyzing me. "What did you do today?" she said hesitantly "..I just helped Tsireya and Ao'nung with the visitors." my father paused to look at me attentively.
"I hope you didn't forget." he said calmly but it looked more like he said it to intimidate me. "Yes father, 'Act like you trust people, but do not.' " he repeated with me the last sentence.Father just wishes for me to be safe, I know that. Yet sometimes I think he's being too possessive, I may be his only daughter, but I am cautious. Always.
I sighed and waited for my plate of food "You have to be even more careful this time sweetheart, we don't know if they have different intentions." mother said sweetly and I raised my gaze to see her comforting smile she always gives me.
I smile back "Yes mom, I know.""Now here you go, eat up and don't leave any leftovers." she passes me a plate with one of my favorites, she knows how to lift my spirits up.
"Thank you for the food." I whisper and start eating. As I was chewing my food I started thinking about grandmother, and of course her saying about that special someone.
I'm scared. Scared of getting hurt, like my mother. What if I'm getting impatient? I have to calm down.I can't get my hopes up so then they can be broken after. I'll try to be more watchful, I have to.
I do not trust.
...
