stef pov

it was already the next morning, and we had a few days until the next game against uruguay. joão still had practice today, so he was there while i was working on his book in bed. i found myself getting distracted by what happened last night. after the kiss, joão and i talked at the cliff for a bit and then he drove us back to the hotel. i remember that drive vividly, mostly because his hand gripped my thigh the entire ride. i was snapped out of my focused state by my phone vibrating.

ARE YOU GUYS DATING??????

no..

so what are you guys then?!?!!?

it's complicated ngl

hold on i'll text you later i have to actually work

all of these people have been asking me the same question about joão and i, and i have not known what to say whatsoever. friends don't do all of this romantic shit, friends don't cuddle and kiss, and friends definitely don't get jealous like how joão does. i felt like i should ask him, but i was too afraid. each time i felt like it was time to ask, the words never left my lips. i tried to ignore the thought clouding my brain, so i could work. i heard a knock on the door, hoping it would be joão, but when i opened it i was just faced with room service holding my lunch. i thanked them and grabbed my food.

while i ate my food and continued drafting the novel, another knock was heard at the door. this time it had to be joão. i opened the door to a man holding the biggest bouquet of roses i had ever seen in my life.

"are you... stefania?" he said while reading off of a small note.

"yes, that's me."

"these are for you." i smiled and asked,

"from who?"

"i wasn't told." i had a confused look on my face, but surely they were from joão. i thanked the guy and closed the hotel door. they were beautiful, and i was smiling at his kind gesture.

. . .

another knock came at the door an hour or so later, and i happily opened it to see joão standing there with a smile.

"how was practice?" i asked with a grin.

"good..." he went into place a kiss on my cheek until he suddenly stopped, his vision focusing on something behind me. his expression stiffened and he looked mad almost. i turned around to see him looking at the roses. "thank you for the roses by the way, they're beautiful-"
