Chapter 2: "Different Tastes, Similar Pasts" Part 2/4
"Well, you see Mayor-" Robin is interrupted by the Jump City's Mayor, who becomes quite serious.
It's like he flipped the switch from carefree to serious.
"You and your friends are the reason this city was saved yesterday night, right?... Ahh, this team was newly created! You haven't decided what to do, much less the name of your team. In that case, I understand. I will give you time to settle things among yourselves, but I will be expecting news in less than a week to deliberate the matter of the damage to my city. I welcome you with open arms in gratitude for preserving my beloved pearl from last night's incident. Robin, friends, thank you," he directs as he bows down.
Wait, wait, wait. Yesterday night? As in, hours earlier before? Jeesh, no wonder I'm still a bit tired. I've only slept about seven hours after that energy draining fight. Well, at least he's being reasonable by giving us time to sort this out. I didn't even know we were going to be a team. I just thought they would call me to help out if I could. Team sounds like spending too much time together, sharing personal information, and trusting each other...
As he straightens his posture, his sunny demeanor returns and he states, "Well, I would love to stay and chat, but unfortunately, I have my own issues to attend to. I will be eagerly waiting for a response from you five. Until then, have a wonderful week."
He flashes a dazzling smile as he walks ahead with his two Herculean men following behind him. He leaves us flabbergasted as we watch him depart. I swiftly recover and hone my scrutinizing stare on Robin.
"So team, huh?" I ask.
"Oh, about that. We have two reasons why I called to meet you here. One was to discuss our clean-up plan, and two was if you would like to unite as one team. Cyborg and I discussed the advantages of being a team, and quite frankly, we worked well together. We could protect this city efficiently. Besides, um, if it weren't for your help, I probably wouldn't have been able to save Jump City. Because of Cyborg and Beast Boy, we were able to find Starfire. Because of Raven, we were able to infiltrate their base. Because of all of us, we were able to defeat Trogaar," Robin clarifies while he scratches the back of his head.
"Oh, glorious! I would love to be part of the team! I am the in," cries out Starfire, who suddenly levitates off the ground and intertwines her fingers while placing her hands on her right cheek.
Beast Boy says smoothly, "Sweet! I've been looking for a team for some time now. I'm totally in, dude!"
Beast Boy extends his arms toward the sky, then bends his elbows to rest his hands on the back of his head. The rest look towards me with expectations gleaming in their eyes as they smile.
A team... I would have to bond with them to read each other's movement in combat with facilitation... but, I do find myself oddly wanting to be a part of this team. Like Cyborg said, 'I fit in just fine.'
I glance at each one of them studying their features.
"Come on, Raven. We just need you to say yes. It would be better with you on our team," remarks Cyborg trying to persuade me.
For some unknown reason, I somewhat trust these four people... I'm also drawn to Beast Boy as if he's a colorful flower, and I'm a honey bee... Plus, I can keep my promise to my mother more easily if I were to join their team...
"Oh, why not? I'm in," I calmly say.
I'll just have to protect them by keeping one secret to myself. They must never know about Trigon's existence and his connection to me. They must never know I'll bring destruction to their world. Tch, I don't know much anyway. If they were to ask questions, I probably won't have answers. I don't even know when the prophecy will be fulfilled nor how...
