They sat upon the snake's head for a while, huddling closely around Hancock until the snake stopped in front of a terrified Luffy, who was desperately clawing at the air as he helplessly sprinted away from a giant bear behind him. The ground thundered with each step the bear took, and its legs were so long that it kept up with Luffy easily. Seeing his friends, he stretched his arm to grab a nearby branch and slingshot himself up onto the snake's head. The snake made a timely escape, being commanded by the ravenette.
"Chopper, you are good with animals, and you are also a doctor, is there any way that you know of that we would be able to take a snake from here onto the Sunny to continue our adventures, it would be beneficial to my fighting style." She asked, looking down at the massive snake beneath her feet. "As I said before, this is but a child, so how would it be possible to have one fully grown"
"Actually it'll be easy. The oxygen levels are extremely high and most likely the proteins and nutrients in the plants here are immense, so it causes everything here to grow many times larger than they are on any other island." He explained. "Removing them from this environment, like taking the snake on the ship and sailing, will cause it to slowly shrink to a near-normal size over time, as it will be subjected to normal conditions." He explained.
That was more than enough for her. She patted the serpent gently on the head, satisfied with Chopper's response. For a bit, there was chatter amongst the crewmates about whether or not they should keep a snake on the ship.
"It will only make her more scary and dangerous!" Usopp screamed. "She can't keep it!" Ussop said, placing his hands over each other to form an X.
"SHHH! more scary and dangerous to our enemies, that means we will have even better protection" Nami whispered.
"SHE CAN KEEP IT! SHE CAN KEEP IT!" he yelled. Putting up a single hand, as if to vote in favor.
Robin giggled; she was always entertained by her crewmates and their shenanigans. She thought for a second before her cheerful face faded. "Wait! Chopper, if this place has higher oxygen levels and more sustenance in the food, then that means-"
"Yep, the longer we stay here, the larger we'll grow. For the first couple of feet, it will be majorly beneficial, as we'll be bigger and stronger and all of our bodily functions will be primed, but after the peak, any more time spent here than necessary will make us grow larger and heavier than our muscles can manage, because the rest of our body grows exponentially greater than the muscles, and after a while, we won't be able to move." He explained.
"That guy... He was so big, probably because of the island... Does he know that he might die soon... Or has their civilization discovered a way to survive here... Does the tree have something to with it?" Zoro thought, thinking back to the muscular and primal man from before.
"I don't understand, but that sounds like it'll be bad... But still good" Luffy reasoned.
Nami spoke up. "So we should make use of the time we have of increased strength, and get out of here as soon as possible. Everyone find whatever they need from here quickly and we need to leave before that happens." She ordered. "Chopper, about how much time do you estimate we have before we grow too big?" She asked.
"A week at most."
"You heard him, split up as needed. I'll get maps drawn, Luffy and Hancock can go on their own adventure as long as they behave and get back in time, Sanji, you need to get food, and Franky get water, Robin you feel free to investigate the island to your heart's content, everyone just be sure to stay safe, and find some way to relay to someone if you find yourself in danger." She mandated, before letting everyone go their own way. "Oh and I don't think it'll be necessary, but here is some money just in case you find a place that takes it." She said, handing everyone a small amount of money.
Chopper decided he wanted to search the island and experiment on how the environment affected medicinal herbs. Brook decided he would travel with Franky. Usopp was stuck with Nami because she needed extra help, and no one else was willing to help her. Zoro went with Robin, deciding to grab some fruits to ferment into alcohol later. "This should turn into some strong booze," he thought.
[Luffy and Hancock]
The snake slithered through the forest with lightning speed, dodging trees and rocks as necessary. Luffy sat in Hancock's lap, with a giant smile on his face, and her hair flowed chaotically in the air behind her as they traveled. Her arms were wrapped tightly around his body.
"Luffy?"
"Where should we go?" She inquired. "We have the island to explore, and at least a week before we have to leave, and we don't have any outstanding obligations on this island, so we can spend it together." She said, gently blushing at her boldness.
"Hmm... I say we ride around until we see something interesting. Like maybe there are other people here. That would be cool."
She gritted her teeth as she thought back to what the man told them before, but she didn't have the heart to tell luffy that he couldn't do it, so she stayed silent. He leaned back and looked up to her soft, pink face above his.
"Y'know, it's real comfortable here. Maybe I should sit here more often." He said with a giggle. She turned a deep red and hid her embarrassed face by burying it in his back. The wind whipped them violently, and the smell of greenery inundated their noses, overpowering any other odor. The air was moist, and almost choking them, but they got used to it as time passed. Suddenly he froze.
"Huh?" He pleaded, prompting her to look beyond him. She paused as well, not knowing how to respond to the sight before her.
[Zoro and Robin]
"Hmm..." Zoro said, stroking his chin and humming inquisitively as he looked at the raven-haired woman beside him
She noticed his glaring and turned to face him. "What seems to be the problem, Zoro? Of course, there is a reason you are gawking at me so hungrily, right?" She asked.
"Yea, im just thinking about how funny it's gonna be to see you all big and muscular for a while," he said, chuckling to himself.
"Hmm... That may happen, or maybe it will temporarily influence development in some of my more feminine areas." She said. "Don't you think that would be more fun to see?" She said, leaning in close and whispering to him seductively
He gulped. "Well, I- uh" he stuttered, rubbing the back of his neck with an awkward smile.
"Just kidding." she giggled.
"Stop doing that!" He said, clenching his jaw. He stomped forward as he walked beside her.
"But I think that being stronger for a bit will be useful, especially with my devil fruit power, I can get a lot done with thousands of muscular arms. While my growth won't be as substantial as yours, it'll still be a major increase in strength." They continued walking through the jungle.
"Yeah, I suppose you're right. Anyway, how's the archaeology going, you discovered anything yet?" She stopped.
"Archeology is studying the ancient cultures, not looking at rocks and telling how old they are. I have to find some symbol of human civilization before being able to make an assessment, Zoro." She said in a more serious tone.
"Wow, you got serious there all of a sudden. Sorry for asking, I'm ignorant on the subject."
"Of course. It's fine." She said with a smile.
The two walked merrily beneath the vast canopy of vegetation, with the nearly invisible clouds drifting above them. They examined the area around them with a keen eye (or eyes in Robin's case) looking for any indication of society.
