When he saw that she was awake and sitting up, he stopped in his tracks. Her eyes widened, looking like she was about to make a mad dash for the door. She would have if she knew where the door even was.  She was frightened. Didn’t know what to do. She felt as if she was still dreaming, but from the sweat, she could figure out that she wasn’t.
“Um, that coffee is for you…if you want it.” He finally said after a long pause of silence. Skylar’s eyes were so heavy, and she wanted to go back to sleep, but she forced herself to stay awake.
“It-its ok…thanks.” She awkwardly said back. He stayed in the entry of the door, and she stayed in her awkward positioning on the couch with a navy blue blanket over her.
“If you need me, I’ll be in the kitchen. I’m hungry, and I’m going to get some food.” He started to turn to walk away.
“Toby, wait,” she said. He stopped and turned back around.
     “Yes?” he asked her back.
“I don’t really know how to word my question, or if you’re going to understand what this means, but how, I mean, why am I here? Like…..what happened?”

“Well,” he started, “after you wouldn’t come with me, I went home. I called Gerick; to tell him what you said happened. He wouldn’t answer. I called him a few times until he did. When he answered the phone, he sounded angry. ‘What do you want?!’ he screamed at me. I said ‘ yo, bro, you need to chill, what’s your problem?’ then he started telling me what happened himself. ‘That bitch from the other team…your team. Gah! She just irritates the shit out of me! You don’t even understand! I beat her so hard, but I still think that she won’t give up. If you see her at your next practice, you better tell her that she better watch...her...back.’ after he said that, my mouth dropped. I asked him if he was the one who chased you into the forest yesterday, after the game. He said yeah, and then asked me how I knew that. I told him that it was because that’s the last place I saw you, and you seamed weak, and I thought that you were just losing your mind. He started getting ancy. ‘Do you think that she’s still there?’ I said that I wasn’t sure, and then he asked me if you looked tired, like you were about to fall asleep. I said ‘I guess so,’ his anger was starting to vanish. Just a bit though. He sounded, I can’t really explain it, but it made me worry. He kept talking, but I wasn’t really paying attention. I think he said something about that being his chance, so I got even more worried. ‘Chance for what?’ I asked. He just kept talking. ‘Gerick, chance for what?...Gerick? Answer me!’ I heard absolute silence. He hung up. I knew you were hopeless, strengthless, and weak. You were probably asleep, which you were, and I got scared for you. I couldn’t let you get hurt. Now that I knew you weren’t lying, I couldn’t just leave you there.
I got my shoes on, and I started running towards the forest. I saw him. He wasn’t running, but he was walking at a very fast pace. He was looking around. My only advantage was that I knew where I left you, so I knew where to look first. I went to the spot, and sure enough, you were there. I picked you up, not making a sound. I’ve seen his faces before, and this wasn’t one that I should have been messing with, but I saw the reflection off of metal in his hand from the flashlight in his other hand. It wasn’t raining as much, but it was still wet, and very slippery. I picked you up, and I saw a ditch. I brought you there and hid with you. I didn’t want to wake you up, but I noticed that you were still breathing, so that was my only concern. We hid there for a while until I even wanted to fall asleep. I thought he was gone. But I was wrong. I was about to get up, when I noticed that he was still there, and he saw me. It was dark though, so I wasn’t sure that he did, until I saw the flash of light on my face. ‘Toby?’ he said. I got up, and pulled out and empty lollipop wrapper from my pocket. ‘only doin’ my high for the day’ I responded. I got up and put the wrapper back in my pocket. He did the same with his knife. I walked over towards him. ‘So what are you  doing out here?’ I asked. He told me that he just needed some fresh air, and that the day just frustrated him too much.  We started walking back to his house. I made conversation with him that had absolutely nothing to do with you. We got to his house, and he went in, but I just kept walking in the opposite direction than the forest. I realized that he was in his house and probably wasn’t coming back when I saw his bedroom light turn on form the front of his house. Just to be safe, without turning past his house, I went a different way back to the forest, found the ditch, picked you up, and brought you here.  I locked all the doors, and turned on my alarm. Don’t worry, my parents aren’t home.”
Skylar just sat there. Staring at him.
“I could say so much right now about that, but my only question right now, is how are your parents not being home a good thing? Shouldn’t that be worse?”
“Oh, you see Skylar; my parents are police-“
“which is another reason why it would be better for them to be here!” she screamed out.
“I wasn’t finished thank you. Anyways. My parents are police, so whenever they leave me here on my own, they put all of the other officers on a much higher watch over me.”

There was a loud bang on the door. BOOM! BOOM! BOOM! Skylar’s heart skipped a few beats. Toby went to the door, to answer it. Skylar got really scared. Toby turned off the alarm system, and opened the door. She was holding her breath. She let it out when she heard an unfamiliar voice. She has never been so relieved to hear the voice of a stranger before. When she turned around to see who it was, she saw that it was a police officer. She got nervous again, until she realized that toby had just said that watch is much higher over him. She heard the officer stop in the middle of his sentence.
“Oh,” he said, “you have a friend over… who is this pretty young lady?” the officer asked Toby.
“Um,” he panicked. “This is Skylar, my uh, girlfriend. She came here yesterday when the storm hit, and I didn’t want her to go home last night in that. I made her stay here, so that she wouldn’t get hurt. I would hate something like that to happen to her.”
“Oh, well then,” the police officer started again, “I guess now I have two teens to look after on my hands. It’s a challenge that I’m willing to take. If she means that much to you, I will definitely not let anything happen to her. You can tell your parents that you can count on me. Keep her here with you for a few more nights. I’ll talk to her parents. I just want to make sure that I can look after the both of you until your parents get back. You two might as well be here because I wouldn’t want her parents worrying with me always over there checking on you. On with your day.” He said and left with the door shutting behind him.
     “What was that?” she said.
“He’s one of the...weirder ones. He always has this weird plan in his head in the end, so just trust him.”
“…ok then” she said unsurely, but she knew that she could trust Toby and trust the police officer.
