The next week was pretty much reveiw work in her classes. She continued to ignore Gerick, and even harder she hid, and even harder he searched. She wanted away from him. She would wait until he was trapped in the popular group at one of the far tables during lunch to go and buy her food so wouldn't see her. She took this a lot more serious than it might have been. Especially after Mark kissing her. She didn't want that to be the reason he's been looking for her even harder.
Skylar was luckey that she had no classes with Gerick, so he couldn't be distracting her from taking the study notes for the exam and using class time wisely to study.
She did have a class with Mark and for a few days he wasn't there because he had to go back to the hospital since he passed out while he was driving his truck back home the morning after he went to Skylars, and he ran the truck into a tree. Skylar didn't know about any of this until the Thursday of the last week before exams when he returned.
She saw him in the morning that day before school started.
"Mark!" she screamed after him as she saw him walking down the hall. Everyone gave her a weird look. He turned around and he was extremely pale.
"oh my gosh, Mark, are you alright?"
"yeah," he said, "you really need to stop worrying about me Skylar.." he said with a half a smile, "there was just a little accidant, I'm fine,"
"What? Where have you been? I haven't seen you since the night you came to my house...I just...I figured you didn't want to talk to me ever again because you even brought your truck back so early, I never got the chance to see you again that morning,"
"I actually picked it up when it was still the middle of the night...I couldn't sleep so I made my dad bring me back and boost my car for me. I would have knocked on your door again to let you know..but you were probably sleeping and I didn't want to wake you,"
"oh," she said in a releived way, "are you alright though? are you sure you want to be here today?" Skylar asked as worried as possable.
"Skylar," he said with a chuckle, "I'm perfectly fine..and I have to be here so I can get what I need to know for the exams-"
"EXAMS!?" Skylar exlaimed, "You are still gonna write an exam!? Mark you're crazy!"
"You really need to stop worrying about me, I'll be fine. Trust me. I know you really care and don't want me straining myself, but I will be fine and you need to let me be fine,"
"I'm sorry...it's just, I really don't want anything to happen to you, and you disapeared for days..I, I was so worriedbout you" she said as she choked on some tears that started coming down, "I won't know what to do anymore if I lose you," she sunk her face in her hands as she cried. She thought back on the day when she past out and he stayed with her and did something rather than leaving her, and how he took a stab in the side for her...to protect her.
"oh Skylar," he said as he wrapped his arms around her and held her as close as he could, listening deeply to his heart beat as she sobbed, "Skylar, I wouldn't be able to lose you either...that's why I have to trust that no matter what happens, you will stay strong and not worry about me, and take care of yourself...Skylar, I love you,"
The bell rang as she looked up at him with her makeup smudged.
"I love you Mark," she managed to say to him just as the crowd parted them.
She had the worst wait until her second period class that she had with Mark. It was complete torture, and the time would not go by. She would count the seconds but it was as if she was counting wrong because the minutes would just not pass.
