Toby followed the two ambulance quickly behind as they rushed his two friends to the hospital. When they got there they asked Toby to wait in the waiting room until further notice. Mark was rushed straight away to operating room and Skylar was to go to the next available one. For three nights Toby waited in the waiting room, with little updates here and there, and each not telling him much. They both survived but Mark is taking it a lot harder than Skylar and is barely making it.  The nurse behind the desk got a phone call. He could only hear what this nurse was saying, not the one on the other line.

“The boy sitting in the main waiting area?” she asked as she looked up at Toby, then back down at a piece of paper she was writing on.  “He really cares about them; he hasn’t left since they have been admitted. I’ll go talk to him,”

     Toby’s leg started shaking.

“Sir?” the nurse with the name tag that read Lynda said, “your friend Mark is in major recovery and cannot be seen for a few more days, and Skylar is currently ready to have visitors but will not be discharged for a few more days also,”

“can I go see her?” Toby anxiously asked.

“Usually the policy is that family members only can see our patience for the first couple days of recovery but since her family is out of town and she keeps asking for you, we can make an exception. She is very tired though, but I will escort you to her room,” nurse Lynda said with a smile and started leading the way.

“Thank you,” Toby said.

Toby walked into the room. She was sleeping with her head laying on her right. Her hair was down and not in a ponytail. It was rare that Toby saw her with her hair down. Her head started to turn into Toby’s direction and her bright, light, blue eyes started shimmering as they opened. Toby had his face emotionless as he saw his life staring back at him.

“Toby,” she said in a light voice.

“I was so worried about you,” he said as he grabbed her hand.

“Toby I was so scared…. I wanted you to be here the whole time with me, I didn’t know what was going on, everything was happening so fast, I just, I wanted to be with you,” she said as tears started filling up her eyes.

“Skylar its okay, I’m here now,” he told her as he bent down and hugged her with all his love. He was so worried about her. He put his face in her shoulder and her arms were wrapped tightly around him.

“I love you so much sky and I never want anything to ever happen to you again,” Toby said in a sincere voice, almost breaking into tears.  Skylar said nothing in return. She was just scared and stayed hugging him as tight as she could.

“Where’s Garrick?” Skylar asked Toby, worried.

“I don’t know, he ran off after the stabbing and I don’t know what has happened to him since, I’ve been here waiting for you, and I didn’t want to leave just in case something happened and I wasn’t here to help you or receive the news,”

Just then Toby’s phone started ringing.

       “Who’s that?” Skylar asked.

Toby looked down at his phone and read the contact; it was the police officer from days earlier.

     “It’s Garrick’s dad.”
