20. Day Before the Exam

“So are you ready??”, Soyeon asks excitedly looking at the still sleepy boy.

“God you’re not a morning person at all!!”, Soyeon declares, “ Which is really bad for our cover story and has has to change!!”, Jungkook opens his eyes to look at Soyeon with a dumb expression on his face.

“You see… we can afford you being a late riser if you were raised in nobility… but according to our cover story… you didn’t .. Instead you were raised as a commoner with your old grandmother.. which means you had to take care for her your entire life and which means waking up in the morning and working hard in the fields…”, Soyeon explains, “ On the other hand, you not knowing the ways of nobility is actually in our favour… but about your knowing the least about them…”, Soyeon thinks for a moment, “ Well we can just say that your so called grandmother tried hard her entire life to keep you away from your reality…”, Soyeon decides.

“About your weird ink work… well we just have to go with the same excuse that your grandmother didn’t wanted you to be recognised as a noble or something… Just remember to stay calm and improvise your way to support the main story… that you were raised far from here on the countryside… by your grandmother.. about whom you recently has come to know the truth… and you are heartbroken for that and all.. about us.. both I and Somi were sceptical about you and couldn’t accept you… but with time we have come to the terms to take you in our family as you are part of the late duke and My brother Jeon Jin-ki… and you are still trying to understand and cope with all these changes… okay?”, Soyeon finally stops.

“Wow.. you have been brainstorming the entire night didn’t you”, Jungkook replies after finally saying goodbye to his morning sleep.

“Well.. I had to.. we don’t have much time left… the test is tomorrow!! We have to do all we can within a day here…”, Soyeon huffs, “ I wish I could’ve asked for more time… but that would look suspicious to them.. the pressure is killing me here… and why are you smiling?? And where is Somi?? Is she still asleep??”

“You look much younger when you are angry you know…”, Jungkook says while laughing, “ And yes my newly announced sister is still saying… as you said before.. late rising in nobility is apparently quite okay..”

You seem to have quite eased down with the situation…”, Soyeon remarks with a faint smile.

“ Well last night…I also did brainstorming a little.. if I can’t get out of this anyway.. what’s the point of nagging about it ? I might as well just accept the fate and move on until it strangles me to the edge..”, Jungkook relies with a dark humour in it.

“Please don’t  say like that… I already feel guilty to…”

“Don’t..”, Jungkook stops Soyeon from apologizing, “ I am not blaming you here…Aunt …. I don’t remember much of my past yet… but still the fractions of memories I get to recall till now.. only indicates that being in an extreme situation is not my first time here today… I can’t describe it… but it feels like… I’m fated..”

Well I can tell you one thing Oppa.. that fate can’t help you tomorrow with Duchess Lalisa..”, Somi announces while running down from the stairs, “ You need to be well prepared for that..”

“Look who’s down finally”, Soyeon taunts her niece.

“ Hey I was only helping you with a tour from the vault…”, Somi complains.

“The vault??”, Soyeon asks feeling quite surprised.

“See you have forgotten your own story… according to your story that old imaginary fake grandmother of Jungkook had given a ring with our family name inscribed on it as proof… A so called ring that my father would give to his imaginary other wife..”, Somi did a gesture with her fingers, clearly uncomfortable with that topic. She seems to have accepted Jungkook as her brother alright, but still feels uncomfortable of what that signifies, even if it’s fake and imaginary.
