Chapter 9 - Lie For a Secret

Sonic's POV

"I will meet you soon, Sonic..."

"You have to get up..."

"We will meet again, I promise..."

...
...

I open my eyes and stare at the ceiling. Have I slept through the rest of the day when I came back from college yesterday? It's still dark outside...though there is a little light.

I check the time, it's almost 5 AM. Of course I got up early when there's no class today. Great job, brain.

I groan and sit on the edge of the bed, trying to remember what I even dreamt of last night. I can't seem to remember anything, this is bad. I was starting to remember all the dreams I had with Shadow, why can't this time I remember anything?

I scratch my quills and got up, heading towards the bathroom. Maybe I'll clear my head after I wash my face.

I decided to go outside, it's actually nice to feel the cold air of dawn once in a while. I stretch myself a bit and start jogging around the neighborhood. It's so calming and quiet, the only sound I hear are birds flying and chirping.

After a while, the sun starts showing more and it gets brighter. More people are now outside and it slowly gets busier.

I head home and take a shower before making myself a breakfast. It actually almost scared me how healthy my morning is today, usually I don't do this routine. I sat down on the table and ate my food while checking on my phone, then I got a notificiation of a text from Scourge.

I widen my eyes, he wants me to meet him at the coffee shop today. At Rose Brew, to talk about our homework.

I would love to go there but having Scourge with me when Shadow already notice me is going to be...weird. the situation would be confusing and I wouldn't be able to explain anything properly.

With Shadow being constantly reappearing in my dreams and how Scourge would react to that...he would definitely punch him. He may not seem like it but Scourge is pretty protective of me, though I'm not sure why.

I carefully think of a reply and decided to lie and tell him that I couldn't go today. I can go to Rose Brew some other time, I should avoid going there for today.

It startled me at how quick he replied.

"I'll come to your house then."

I sigh in relief, I don't mind that as long as he doesn't take me to the coffee shop, at least for now. Not until I get things sorted with Shadow.

Man, I shouldn't have called out his name that time.

Shadow's POV

I lay down on the carpet in the living room, staring up at the moving fan on the ceiling. After I finished filing all my mission reports, I got a week off duty. Honestly I don't know how to spend my short vacation time.

"You don't seem to enjoy your first day of vacation."

I look to the right and see my friend, Rouge. She sat on the couch and placed her cup of tea on the table.

"I'm bored, I don't know what to do." I groaned.

"Well what about meeting that blue hedgehog that you talked to me about the other day?"

"He didn't show up yesterday, I don't think he will today." I sat up, "I don't even know if he's gonna come back or not, he's mysterious."

"Want me to hack the system and find where he lives?" She smirked.

"No, don't abuse your skills like that, I would feel bad and weird for stalking someone I don't know." I got up and sit next to her.

"Hun, we do that all the time."

"Yeah for missions only." I glare at her, "Sonic is just a regular citizen."

She sips on her drink and sigh, "well you can book a trip somewhere...maybe there's a place you wanna visit or something." she shrugged.

I lean back and grab the pillow next to me and hug it, "it's not fun to go alone..."

"Are you-"

"No I'm not taking you with me, you're not on vacation, you still have work tomorrow."

"Damn it." She threw her gaze away, "so then what do you wanna do?"

My mind went blank, I have no plans whatsoever to spend my vacation, but the thought of meeting Sonic is still lurking in my mind. I'm still so curious of how he learned my name.

"Okay fine, I'll keep trying to go back to Rose Brew." I sigh and got up, "just as long as you stop bugging me."

She chuckled and nodded her head, "I wish you luck." She teased and I roll my eyes away.

Sonic's POV

I yawn as Scourge and I sit on the bed and browse some articles related to our subject on his laptop.

"Did you not get enough sleep?" He asked.

"I did...too much, actually." I chuckled, "but I don't know why I'm still so tired..." I sigh and lay myself down.

"Should've taken you to Rose Brew and get you your coffee." He said and I instantly sat up.

"No! Not- right now...I mean, hehe, my stomach doesn't feel good. I'll go when I feel like it and on my own." I nervously smile at him. He rolled his eyes away and continued to browse the internet.

"It's weird how you suddenly have a stomach ache...but whatever makes you feel better, I guess." He glanced at me then back to his laptop.

"Yeah, uh- thanks."

I'm just glad he didn't force me to come with him. I really don't want to see Shadow when Scourge is with me...
