Friday Afternoon session
I enter the floristics classroom (which is more of a greenhouse with its tall glass walls and sky-view) and take a look around. On the center of each black tabletop lays a garden gnome flower pot with respitillis sprouting out of it. Each table had a seat for three students, which is quite a small number, but then again it's Floristics. I used to be in art, but it just wasn't cutting it for me. Of course, there being only one and a half weeks until midterms, there were...limited options.
Luckily, I am acquainted with someone there. A year four student named Cal Aber. My brother had been friends with the guy since year two and they've been buddies ever since. Frankly, the guy has my respect. He usually comes up on top after finals and is generally pretty snazzy, not that I like him or something.
A waving hand caught my eye. I could recognize that bright red hair from anywhere.
"Hey Cal," I say as we dab each other up. "Spicy veggie spread?" I say, glancing down to his hand containing an everything bagel with an orange spread atop it.
"Yessir! You know I like 'em spicy," he says, winking. I take a seat next to him on the table closest to the door, dropping my books on the surface.
"Who sits there?" I nod to the seat across from us.
"Vienna. You know, Ivy's friend?" (┛◉Д◉)┛彡┻━┻
"Yeah. Wait, I swear I saw her today."
"I saw her today too, right outside the door, but she never entered the classroom. She just never shows. Like, ever. Pretty suspicious if you ask me."
"Yeah, for real." Just then, the school bell rang.
"Good afternoon class. I would like to welcome our new student, Scarlett Song," Sir Barnaby Francis says in the most monotone voice I have ever heard. He said this while gesturing to me with his clipboard. I give a smile, but not much more. I lean towards Cal.
"Is he always like this?"
"Oh, you mean is he always bitter like shots of espresso and more monotone than the beep of my alarm? You would be correct." He takes a big chomp from his bagel before putting his hands behind his head.
I give a groan. This is even worse than art. Except this class has Cal Aber, my brain thinks, and I smile to myself.
As Sir Francis takes roll, I go into a state of boredom which I have never entered. My brain starts to wander into my abyss of thoughts, until it finds something to cling to. Then, boom. In our meeting yesterday, Maxine had said that the color of the villain's eyes were pale blue. Of course, it had hit me in the moment, but it was temporarily forgotten until just now. Vienna Lain has pale blue eyes. I hear that same name being called out now.
"Vienna? Vienna Lain?" Sir Francis calls, in his still monotone voice. "Why do I even bother, Vienna is never here." He was clearly frustrated, so I decided to offer my assistance and maybe even catch a Neverseen member in the act.
"I can go look for her," I say, raising my hand.
"Sure," my administrator says, waving me away and continuing to take roll. I rise from my seat and glance at Cal, who looks confused by my participation.
"In order to find a rat, you gotta catch it in the act," I whisper to him, winking. I walk out the door and enter the long hallway.
I walk for about two minutes. Nothing. I conjure up the possibility that she just went home. I mean, floristics was a throwaway class anyway, but something didn't feel right. I continue to walk for a little longer, but while passing the janitors' office, I hear the voice of our potential criminal. I press my ear to the door.
"G, it's not my fault! I didn't know," Vienna says, clearly defensive. The person who voices the reply sounds all too familiar.
"You have to be more careful! Don't tell me I need to pull out ANOTHER agent from that school," the voice says.
"You won't have to do that, I got this," Vienna replies, though she was clearly nervous.
"That's my girl!" My heart almost stops. That voice... that was the man that shouldered me against the wall in Selenite Cove. That was the guy who hurt Alvia. That was the guy I hit with a chair. I hear the call end. In fear of being caught, I run back to the Floristics classroom. I can't even process what just happened. I thought I was just kidding myself, but...Vienna is actually part of the Neverseen.
"She wasn't there," I say to Sir Francis and take my seat.
Hi queens! What do you think about Scarlett and Cal ship? Let me know in the comments :)
